Picture 1:
Twilight Sparkle and Rainbow Dash: 148 px
Princess Celestia: 245px (280 px including the horn)
Picture 2:
Applejack: 140 px
Troubleshoes Clyde: 250 px (average between both ears)
Two conclusions:
1°) The scale of the second screencap is slightly smaller than the first one.
2°) If you set the height of the average pony at 1 meter (once again for convenience’s sake, as most height charts come up with numbers around that), that puts Celestia at roughly 1.66 m (1.89 m with the horn) and Troubleshoes at 1.79 m (or, if the metric system is too complicated for you, 3 ft 3 in, 5 ft 5 in/6 ft 2 in, and 5 ft 10 in respectively).
Unless you include her horn, Troubleshoes is taller than Celestia.
According to Lauren Celestia’s a horse.
One has a thing for humanized pony girls. The thing is mutual even though it really doesn’t feel like it ought to be.
The other is a big, clumsy guy who just wants to be near something he likes. He’s well-meaning, but still gets accused of ruining everything and being a threat to children.
It should also be noted that for some reason horses are measured in “hands”.
>One’s a slightly awkward, mostly chill rocker
>The other’s a man down on his luck; literally
Dude, wut?
I get Flash. But why the other guy?
But it gets dull of they all keep looking to much alike, it’s nice to have a change.
That is a reason to like it. But not one to not dislike it. I could say the same to the people that don’t like that Celestia looks too tall. Fleur de Lis too. This is just me being close minded I guess. I just think that Celestia and Fleur are cute and Troubleshoes looks weird.
Isn’t that kind of the point of the “not so different” and “don’t judge a book by its cover” massages that keep popping up?
I just mentioned it because the other user mentioned it and I happened to agree that this is, indeed, part of the message they were going for in the episode. He looked intimidating when he first appeared.
Actually we agree that making him big to be clumsy wasn’t necessary. It just doesn’t bother you as much as it bothers me.
Also we have seen some clumsy, normal sized ponies as well, Sweetie for one and she was the one that said “klutzy” like she was very familiar with it so seems they where not makeing about being big and clumsy.
Okay, let me put it like this.
“I don’t see the problem of not liking a fictional character for looking different from others.”
But it gets dull of they all keep looking to much alike, it’s nice to have a change.
“I didn’t understand the point of making the character so different, and yet not so different.”
Isn’t that kind of the point of the “not so different” and “don’t judge a book by its cover” massages that keep popping up?
I agree that big = clumsy thing is over done but that doesn’t make sense when talking about how he looks different when they could of made him look a lot like the other ponies and still be big and do that.
If there are tall ponies who are not clumsy, and short ponies that are clumsy, I think your making a mental association between tall and clumsy that isn’t there in the show.
Even then, I don’t see the problem of not liking a fictional character for looking different from others. He was not “born” that way. Someone created him, and this process usually is an statement about something. But this is getting off topic.
The problem is that I didn’t understand the point of making the character so different, and yet (and I should have said this) not so different. I don’t know if the term applies here, but he kinda fell into a sort of uncanny valley. Hydras are different from ponies. So are minotaurs. but he looked more like an actual horse than a cartoon pony. Maybe that was the intention, like ColdhardSilver said. I still don’t like this kind of association. Celestia is big, but she is not clumsy (as far as we know). Derpy is clumsy but doesn’t need to be huge. The same goes for people. I just don’t like the tall = clumsy association.
But maybe the point was that he seemed intimidating, like a supposed villain and I hadn’t seen it at the time.
Well you should of worded it better then, it came off like you just didn’t like that he was different simply for being different.
Please keep your faux indignation in check. It’s a cartoon character. I’ll try to explain now.
@ColdhardSilver
I guess it just rubbed me off the wrong way. This episode felt (to me) so mean spirited with his misfortune and the fact that he is different from the “standard” character model. If it was one or the other it might not have bothered me. But you may be right. I guess I just didn’t like it.
Design diversity, also it goes with he’s clumsy nature and par of the reason people thought he was a criminal; ‘cause he’s built like a truck.
You don’t like him because he’s different?
Wow… just wow…
And it’s not because he is bigger than Celestia. I just don’t see the point of making him so different from other ponies. What is Celestia from his race?!
