It’s not always fatal, but they usually wish it was.
Indeed. A lance of raw magical energy straight to the brain. Migraines would seem like a mercy compared to that.
Could be worse. Could be a backfire instead.
Not more severe, just present in different ways, much like a cube can be smaller than a square yet extend into different dimensions.
How? In the show it’s shown just anger causes magical discharge.
It could just be a show of loss of control. I’m not undermining how painful migraines can be (get them myself), but just saying, I don’t think magic discharge really indicates that the pain is more severe than humans have endured.
Look up Fibromyalgia or Cluster Headaches.

Painful, sometimes- but more than anything is how dreadfully annoying they can be.
If they’re bad enough- you literally can<t do anything productive- or anything at all, for that matter.
