It’s not a trait in ponies (which is part of why some authors and cartoonists relish in using animals as characters), but it is a trait in humans. Therefore, it is respectable that one would be creative by humanizing non-ethnocentrically.
 
Personally, I think it looks fine, but I know what you’re trying to get at. Still, you have to realize when you are treading on dangerous ground in regards to these issues. Otherwise, you will come off as a troll or–worse–a legitimate racist.

just FYI most dark-skinned animus are meant to be Ainu or Okinawan or some other SE Asian. Or Ganguro if blonde. So all this animu nonsense is actually kind of off-track. (such as Abenobashi)

It’s a market force thing. It’s like customer feedback, I say I dislike it, hopefully they adjust it if enough others dislike it too.
 
It’s a purely selfish thing sure, but it’s like someone saying they prefer one ship over the other. I prefer it one way over the other and leave my criticism as such.
