Having them on his back kind of makes it hotter. It just adds another layer of humiliation on him, which is what I think this pic is going for.

If Spike were turned onto his back, this would be way hotter. As is, it makes me feel bad for him.

This is an accurate depiction of how this relationship is played onscreen. Rarity and Applejack do get a lot of scenes together and have quite a few episodes centered around the two. Spike is almost acted upon like the kid neighbor from down the street or that small, naive cousin that says he’s gonna marry her.
 
I know they really aren’t together, but the fuel they keep adding to this ship doesn’t help the naysayers case.
