They both involve a group of friends.
Think about it. There are television series that have had fewer episodes than the land before time has had movies.
Applejack?? Cera seems like Rarity a tad, maybe with a little Rainbow Dash, but she’s far closer to Trixie than anypony else.
Chomper has no counterpart, and Spike would be the Derpy.
But really the similarities are a big stretch. They’re both rounded groups from a children’s TV series, so there was bound to be a couple things the same.

I can’t say who Sarah is because she’s a Rarity/Applejack mix to me.
Ruby, she’s an Oviraptor, or in the series’ terms a Fastrunner.
