Debateable. They seemed stuck at the “sing people to anger, feed, repeat” level of sustenance farming until they had other magic to work with. Still, this is on the edge of dueling headcanons, and I don’t think either of us wants that.

Ah, 18th Century France. Truly a time of prosperity for our dear sirens: The oppression of the peasants meant there was an abundance of negative energy rife for the taking with no effort at all, the nobility were so easily swayed that there was hardly need to spend magic on controlling others. And when Sonata Dusk caught the eye of the then Prince and married him, it seemed all their troubles were over.
 
…Then she had to open her mouth and suggest the peasants eat cake if they could not have bread, and things went straight down the shitter.
