Shrugs, while it may not be a very strong counterargument I would say that if one were to consider the possibility that Discord is a Lord of Change… the reason why he could be reformed and enjoy the comfort of stability and familiarity is because the land of Equestria ‘corrupted’ him, changing him to more greatly match the universe he now found himself in. Because of this, he became venerable to attachment and emotions such as happiness, sorrow, and empathy. It was because of being in a place so unlike what is know in Warhammer 4ok that be became unlike what Lord of Change are known for.

Also, despite saying it, I am one who is not un support of Disord’s reform. I felt he make for a much more enjoyable figure was a villain who care not but for himself and in having fun. heh

Just because something is made for kids/teens doesn’t mean we can’t discuss underlying messages.
I mean, look at the site we’re on.
This is a site that hosts art, much of which involves headcanons and theories (and porn), for a show about multicolored horses who solve problems with singing and friendship.
Dammit, if that doesn’t open up endless possibilities for crazy interpretations, I don’t know what does.

Exactly, and while the parallels between Discord and a LoC are uncanny, the main difference is Discord is still “human”, if that term can even apply here. He’s shown humility before, and the will to, in some senses, reform himself. He retains his chaotic nature, but he has felt betrayed and used when Tirek took his power. He was able to understand how much pain one can experience when a “friend” turns on them, albeit only once he got a taste of his own medicine. He has attempted to make amends after the realization that his happiness is not the only thing that matters.

Oh! I’m glad you brought up the “broken and made anew” quote. But remember that the line that comes before it, at least in the 40k Codex, is “There is nothing more a Lord of Change despises more than the entrapping comfort of stability and familiarity…”
Discord has learned how much he enjoys these things, as even with Tirek, he wished to view his partner in crime as a friend who shared all of his interests. When Tirek tossed him aside, he became distraught, realizing he’d made the wrong decision. He traded his real, familiar friends for a fake one who played him like a fiddle.

This is mainly where I think Discord and a Lord of Change differ. Discord is almost more like a regular (okay, not exactly) individual who possesses this absurd power. He wields it in the way he thinks he’ll most enjoy, but in the end discovers what really matters. Discord craves attention, and while he would love for it to be positive, he’ll quickly accept the negative if that is the only kind available. However, once he experienced the feeling of having a friend, he was scared to lose it and realized he couldn’t just do what he wanted, all the time. He has to think of others.

The Lord of Change on the other hand, never regrets its actions. It feels mo attachment to the mortal world through emotions such as happiness, sorrow, and empathy. Everything it does, be it viewed as good or bad, is planned ahead and only ever to further its own agenda. It despises stability and familiarity because it is, in essence, its antithesis. Everything must change, and it must never stop doing so. Be it good or bad, this is the only goal ever truly on the daemon’s mind, and it has already set a plan in motion to do so, even when it doesn’t fully understand its purpose.

I already know all this about the daemons of Chaos, again though despite what you have said Discord is the closest equivalent of a daemon from Warhammer 40k. I have actually seen much to compare when it comes to a Lord of Charge and Discord., writing something one the matter.

Discord is a greater daemon Lord of Change:
  1. Both are “unpredictable and manipulative”
  2. Both have “a curious and wreckful mind”
  3. Both are “deeply intelligent, yet as uncaring of consequence as it is fascinated by it”
  4. Both are “like a child playing upon some gigantic anthill, poking with a stick at its inhabitants and laughing at the hopeless antics of their defense”
  5. Both it can be said that “nothing pleases him more than to see the world broken and made anew”
The quoted lines are taken directly from the Daemons of Chaos codex of Warhammer Fantasy Battles 7th Edition, page 33 from the entry on the Lords of Change. Though I admit that if Discord actually is a Lord of Change Equestria is lucky they survived their encounter with such a being…

On why Discord ‘looks’ nothing like a Lord of Change read this:
“Lords of Change do not regard it as essential to retain consistency of color, appearance – or even shape”… meaning that it is a small thing for a Lord a Change to look anyway they want.
On why Discord is not as ‘dangerous’ as a normal Lord of Change would be, well the world is different. What feeds a servant of Tzeentch is that of change, ambition, deceit, exc… such things that don’t exist in nearly the same quantity or as negatively. Compared to Equestria, the setting of Warhammer Fantasy Battles is as dark to Equestria as Warhammer 40,000 is to Warhammer Fantasy Battles (arguably)… and thus even more so when comparing Equestria with Warhammer 40k.

@EquestrianScholar
True, but Discord isn’t a demon, nor is his area of expertise purely destructive or harmful. He’s simply rather…random. He’s a spirit of chaos, but not an embodiment of it. Now take…hmm…lets say a bloodletter. Every bloodletter is created by the wrath, hatred, fury, and violence of every sapient being in realspace. They don’t “enjoy” bloodshed. It’s what they are. Converting a bloodletter to good, were such a thing even possible, would only cause it to stop existing, as it would no longer be a bloodletter and would no longer be composed of pure fury.

Discord may be chaotic and cause trouble from time to time, but it’s part of his character, not part of his essence. Daemons of the warp are the most dangerous tendencies and thoughts of mortals come to life. They have no reason to be any different, as their sole purpose is to be just as horrific as the concepts they embody. Daemons of Khorne will always be violent, daemons of Tzeentch will always sow the seeds of corruption and deceit, daemons of Nurgle will always bring anything that lives to decay, and daemons of Slaanesh will always use your primal lust to lure you into your own demise. As otherworldly as they seem, they’re reflections of things mortals know all too well, and that is what makes them most frightening.
…That and the fact they’re hideous monstrosities.

In short, unless everyone in the universe suddenly lost all anger, lust, fear of death, stopped all fighting, cured every disease, and basically stopped doing most things that qualify them as sapient, I don’t think we’ll be seeing any “good” demons in the near future, at least not ones who don’t already embody positive concepts, and there are very few of those.

Laughs, exactly. Yes given the grimdark setting and mood of Warhammer 40k the very idea of converting a demon to good is silly… but arguably so is comparing the Emperor of Mankind with Princess Celestia. It is like comparing a G Rated movie with an R Rated movie, or that of an E rated game with a M rated game.

I would argue my point still stands, as I feel it is an actual plus for Princess Celestia that her plan to have the most chaotic and arguably destructive creature known reformed… even if it was through another.

Princess Celestia
*Has ruled over a 1000 years without being killed, and seems like she will continue to rule until if or when she passes such responsibility to another.

*Has kept Equestria at peace and safe, without any know wars or long extended conflict.

*Can convert others to her philosophy without use of fear, indoctrination, or killing millions of her subjects. Where her subjects show love and loyalty to her without worry of being put to death for merely disagreeing with something she says.

*She and her sister was able to defeat the equivalent of a Lord of Change, Discord, with the power of friendship and under her direction had one of her subjects converse same figure to the side of good.

*Equestira is a wonderful place to live where ponies are encouraged to purpose there full potential and creatively come up with answers to their problems, united to build instead of tear down, under the ideals of friendship and harmony with ponies living full lives.

The Emperor of Mankind
*Was betrayed and essentially killed by his son, all his plans and goals cast aside with him being pretty much a comatose man on life support. His desire of convincing his people that there was go gods being twisted so that he is now treated as a god.

*The Horus Heresy is as much his fault as anyone elses, especially for the secrets he kept from his most trusted sons and not being there for them when they needed him post. Driving away those most devoted to him such as Magus the Red and Lorgar Aurelian.

*While he has defeated numerous demons, never once has he converted one to the side of good. More, his subjects fight a losing battle against countless demons as the Empire falls prey to corruption, superstition, and paranoia.

*His inquisitors kill countless number of his people, burning countless worlds in the name of the Emperor so that not a single heretic lives.

*He is stuck doing little more then keeping the worse of chaos at bay and while this is impressive, it allows for him to doing nothing else.

*The Empire of Man is a terrible place to live, where humans live in near constant fear if not from outside dangers from their government, the ecclesiarchy, and the inquisition. Where superstition and persecution runs rampant. Creativity and freedom of thought is not allowed, nor are any allowed to become anything not approved by the Empire.

Of course. Space Elf vagabonds and a tiny alien empire in the middle of bumfuck nowhere certainly deserve to have equal priority as Galaxy Eating Super Bugs and literal demons. Real intelligent policy there.
