There’s a difference between crops and weeds. These seem to be very much the latter, choking the life not just from Applejack, but, if I’m interpreting the background and dissolving fruit correctly, from Sweet Apple Acres itself.

This looks like a cartoon I saw when I was a little kid. Some bad guy turned into a tree because he couldn’t touch the ground of some crystal forest or something. I can’t remember much but it’s been driving me crazy.
