well she was a mentally unsound person to begin with, from what i can guess she might have been assaulted by the ‘elevens’. perhaps even raped. regardless she had extreme xenophobia that manifested in extreme fear.  
she was trapped in a situation where she was literally held hostage by them, and likely was about to be killed. then euphie protected her.  
nina became extremely obsessed over her, the situation likely loosening the hinge further.  
then euphie died, quite suddenly.  
then the japanese invaded.  
and she nearly killed herself and several hundred people with the very first nuclear bomb created in her world.  
she ultimately realized her sin though.

Well, of course Twily will defend Einstein. She found her theory of tables to be quite exhilarating.
