Oh the oculus is awesome regardless. Being able to turn completely around and look all around with your head is fuckin awesome.
Not missing an eye, I have just never had depth perception due to strabismus. Or if I did have it as a child it it didn’t leave enough of an impact for me to notice it was gone.
I own an Oculus Rift too and having monovision didn’t stop me from yelling screaming like a little girl.
Dude, if you’re missing an eye or something, I’m not gonna argue with you because that’s fucked up to do. I just figured you were one of those hipster luddite types that bitch about 3D movies and the like. If you’re talking about quality of life, then right on, missing depth perception shouldn’t put a damper on it.

When you watch huge beautiful scenery, your depth perception doesn’t do squat according to the articles which say it doesn’t work beyond 20 feet. Oh boo hoo.
Depth perception only works for close distances anyway. I never missed it.
I’m not saying you can’t make a good scene using a flat image, obviously we’ve been doing that since we’ve been able to draw pictures on cave walls. But to say that stereoscopic vision is overrated is fucking retarded. Biology is use it or lose it. We wouldn’t have two eyes and so much brain space dedicated to them if they didn’t convey a massive advantage. And you can recreate the idea of 3 dimensions with a single 2d image, but you cannot recreate raw 3 dimensional sensation with it. Just because I can tell when watching a movie who is supposed to be in the foreground and who is in the background and so on and so forth from visual cues does not recreate the sense of being immersed. If you’re skilled enough, you can create the sense of color through black and white imagery, and you can create the sense of image through raw text, or, the ultimate, you can just say fuck all input and rely on daydreaming. But so the fuck what grandpa? You’ll never be able to beat tricking your brain from the bottom level of sensory up in immersion. You can disagree all you want but it’s a basic neurological fact.
I appreciate the ability to master your lower mind with abstract thought and the skill it takes for artists with minimal resources to convey complex detail with a narrow bandwidth of information, but I think when people like you put that above the actual image that those artists are trying to describe, you’re missing the point. Don’t downplay the beauty of 3 dimensions in their actuality just like you wouldn’t downplay the beauty of color in it’s actuality in favor of some guy being able to accurately describe color and depth without actually using color and depth.
Artists are trying to convey beauty that is there, not inject it.
I would beg to differ
A couple billion years of evolution would beg to differ.
‘wut’
then i was like
‘oh :(’
flips the left eye screen upside down
better?
