References/callbacks are really nothing unusual in comic books, people aren’t aware of I guess.
Heck, I remember Sonic quoting the first TMNT movie in the “Sonic Genesis” anniversary comic book. (Plus, the Archie Sonic comic in general has alot of nods to the Sonic games, and old cartoon shows in it. Same with the Archie Megaman comic, like Air Man remarking, “YOU CAN’T BEAT ME!” And yes, I chuckled at that, and am not ashamed.)
• Mystery In Space Invaders (Mystery In Space was a sci-fi comic)
• Double Richard Dragon (kung fu fighter who trained Batman)
• Whack A Mon-El (superhero with Superman’s identical powers whose weakness is lead)
• Wild Cat’s Punch Out (vigilante who was a boxer and who also trained Batman)
• Need for Speed-Force (the fountain of The Flash’s powers)
Boy and you thought the references in Andy Price’s were pandering, these references are eye candy for DC fans!

True story, one time I only had one coin, and I managed to get a Care Bear for my niece with only one shot. It’s the only time I ever won the crane game.
