Haven’t (most of) the FF comics been better than the main line? They definitely all avoided the “attempted epic arc” failure mode the main comics suffered from.
I think there’s a chance for the comic to pick itself back up. The comics are episodic by necessity, can afford more tasteful meta-humor, and are far less hindered by fan hype than the show. (Indeed, it was while the comics became more widespread that the quality arguably declined. Too much pressure on Katie maybe?)
I’m going to come out and say that if it were not for the recent Ted Anderson controversy (and maybe the derpier FF issues), people would be more willing to give a second chance.
Right. First of all, calm down. and secondly, which comic are you referring to that is bad?
I just wanted you to read it @Beau Skunky
“It’s a bit ironic actually, ’cause for awhile people who “disowned” the show for going in directions they didn’t like, (some fans hated Season 3, and not just for “Twilicorn”) turned to the comic series instead, and for a brief period considered the comics better then the show, and would bash the show instead, while praising the comics.
Now it’s kinda the opposite with hardly any complaining about the show, and such. (Surprisingly, even “Rainbow Rocks” was very well received. Even more then the previous movie was.)As I said before, the fanbase sure is fickle.”
This here, you seem to assume that it’s odd to think that season 3 was weak. If you look on IMDB, you will find out that season 3 is overall rated lower than all the others seasons, except for a few episodes, meanwhile season 4’s score soared high.
So, maybe that means that, instead of the “fanbase being a fickle” it means season 3 was just bad?
Likewise, the comics were almost objectively praised when they started, because they were GOOD. The bad stuff were often pointed out (like the writing in the dash micro) and the horrible was already ousted (FF1) but we overall it was great and we admitted it.
But lately, between the fact of a string of errors piling up and the fact that the authors are conspiciously avoiding to respond to any form of criticism whatsoever, people realised that the voices had to be heard, hence the rise in criticism.
It’s not “the fandom being fickle” it’s justified. For that matter, the recent FF or even Ted Anderson Dash/Spit one never had this much scorn, so this comment string souldn’t be associated to “the fandom being fickle” and more because that comic is BAD.
And you probably left anyway, but if you do come back READ THE COMIC THIS PAGE IS ABOUT BEFORE POSTING ABOUT IT!.
Perhaps, I guess I’m just not in a good mood either, (for reasons I’d rather not get into) so I guess I better leave this thread then. Seeyas. (Clicks unsubscribe.)
This is just what happens when one view clashes with another.
Sorry, I didn’t mean to come off as a “victim.” I’ve just finally “had it.” Maybe it’s best I just get out of this thread…
Still, I don’t get why somebody is trying to make me out to be a “bad guy,” when I haven’t “attacked” anyone in this thread.
Word of advice: Try not to openly paint yourself as the victim here. The denizens of this site generally don’t take people who wave around the “victim complex” well, especially after how DWM started.
I never “attacked” anyone in this thread, look at my posts… The “worst” I said was we should give negative-critique without insulting people. How is that the same as “Nobody is allowed to criticize the comix?!”
Also, ironically, I’ve actually stood up for this fanbase, especially back during the “DWM-drama.” I never once said we were all “whiny jerks.” You’re putting words in my mouth…
Also, there’s a difference between giving the comic criticism, and just plain bashing it, and the people who make it like Katie. I have no problem with negative critique, in fact believe it, or not, I’ve given it to… (Like on the Winter issue, which even I’ll admit had problems.) Still, I don’t think the whole series “sucks,” just ‘cause it’s having some problems recently. I’m enitled to my opinions just as you guys are to hate the series.
All I’m saying is I disagree, that’s not the same as “attacking” sombody. There’s people waaaay more “confrontational” then I am on this site.
So can you get off my case, whoever you are. Honestly, I feel like I’m the one who’s being “attacked.”
UGH! I don’t even know why I bother standing up for myself… People (or at least some anon’) are hassling me about the comic so much, even I’m starting to get sick of hearing of the comic…
And yeah, the cameo was barely the problem, the problem is it dug up all the Ted Dirt and he dugged it up even further with his RS posts.
You’re attacking eveyrone because each time you act like it’s unfair to criticize the book and we should let it fly because it’s “one bad in many” (something that is debatable itself).
Then you pass the fandom as a bunch of whiny jerks who’s never satisfied, again to make it look like the criticism is unjustified.
Which is why I tell you, before doing that, at least understand it.
Not sure if “sexist” is the right-term, seeing as he is male, (and never flat-out said “men suck”) it’s more like “self-shaming.” But let’s not get into that as you said.
I understand that, and here’s hoping.
It’s not so much the cameo appearance of the OC that angered many fans. It was Ted’s sexist remark he made towards this fandom. But lets not bring this controversy to this unrelated image.
Haters are going to hate. Whiners will whine. But some people have legitimate concerns.
Lets hope they can improve.
Well, after fans complained about “pandering/references” they kinda cooled down on that a li’l, at least. So that’s a fan-critique they addressed on. Also, hate to bring up the “Ted-drama,” but the editor said they were going to edit out the controversial cameos in future reprints of the issue, and gave a stern warning to the entire staff about that, and what content goes into the series. So they have listened to some things before.
I know, I’ll even admit the “Winter” EqG issue had problems, (and it really made the CMC & Mane 5 look bad…) so I hope they improve in the future.
Some people thought the show was “never going to be good again” after Season 3, (which some didn’t like) but surprisingly some of those people loved Season 4. So you never know what the future holds.
Well, we can only hope they actually listened this time and make the new comic better.
Then they should show that they’ve listened to the fans, by improving the qualities of the comics instead of getting worse. Show it in their work as proof they’ve listened.
I know some people fret over minor almost non-issues too much at times. But lately, many even hardcore fans have pointed out the flaws.
Well, I’ve never been to the forums, so I wouldn’t know, sorry. Though, I don’t think it’s run by the people who work on the comics, (like Katie, Andy, ect. they probably don’t go there much) so I don’t know if it’s right to blame them for overzealous admins.
Still, as you said, it is stupid to censor harmless critiques, unless the people get to hateful, insulting, or are just trying to start trouble. That I will admit is wrong regardless who is to blame.
Y’know, on the Bumbleking Forums, Ian Flynn (writer for the Sonic & Megaman official comics) actually defended somebody before whom other people were attacking, because he said he wanted Ian replaced by a new writer for Sonic. Ian said the guy (who didn’t have one good thing to say about his works) was entitled to his opinions, and that people should leave him alone.
That fact that they “cleaned up” their forums of criticisms as “mean comment” and the general deterioration of the quality of the comics to a point even hardcore fans from EqD and TRS blast them, is an overwhelming sign that they aren’t keen on listening to critics.
I wish I can believe they are listening to fans. But the signs don’t show it.
Perhaps, though, it’s possible they still listen to critiques even if they don’t answer/retweet them, and such. I mean the people who work on the TV show don’t always answer/address critiques about the show either.
Who knows? We don’t really know what goes on behind the scenes, but I do hope they try to improve sense some fans seem to be becoming soured with the comics.
It doesn’t really matter whether it’s the comics or the show. People will catch and point out flaws where ever they exist. Part of improving is listening to criticisms.
The fact that the comic staff bluntly refuse to listen to critics might be why fans have been rather irritated towards them lately. Also, season 5 couldn’t come any sooner. Meanwhile, people turn their attention to the comics between seasons of the show.
How am I “attacking” anyone?
Sorry but no, I’ve been on the forum and made complete, fine description of the issues of the comic without attacking the author at any point (people rarely do over there) but aside from a single mention from curnow (who has no power over Cook and Price) nothing is taken, the writers themselves hides on twitter and will of course only retweet good comments while never taking critic in consideration, or, in the case of Cook and Price, even mock them.
And regarding this one, I URGE you to read it before posting any more comment defending it here.
This is NOT like Reflections, where all the critic about the story can admittedly be attributed to opinion (albeit, please tell me how not including a dark version of the mane 6 and mocking those who wanted that is a good idea) or even
However, here, the comic contradict itself. What all of Issue 25 tried to set just created a tons of logical issues within issue 26 that makes the entire plot pointless. So, not only can the characters be called OOC, but even in their OOCness their attitude can’t be excused, it’s really jarring.
In fact, when Curnow had to respond to criticism of the plot, he didn’t even try to justify the character, just to pass the entire comic as “looney tunes” esque, something the entire issue of #25 was anything but.
And that’s not counting the fact that Cook contradict her own cannon where the villain here is an easily dispatched cameo in her FF.
So yes, this comic is a mess, please at least try to understand why FULLY before already attacking us for complaining. I didn’t complain for Reflections, I didn’t complain for Anderson, but I sure as hell am complaining for this.
If IDW slips info that Toei is helping them with this comic, and it’s revealed that this isn’t the Everfree Forest attacking but rather the Helheim Forest.
That… would actually be a pretty cool comic.
And then Mare Do-well appears, and Spike destroys the boss vine root easily by throwing a rock down it’s throat, while Pinkie keeps saying things that make Fluttershy scared out of her mind.
