scratch that, didnt see the rest of the comics in between what i saw last lol. x.x
Im a bit confused as unless its a typo, Sunset said that the Changeling Queen WAS powerful enough to take on both sunset and her. :?
I assume if its not a typo that it implies the sneak attack what if Sunset didnt dodge would have been a clear victory, but as she didnt take out both she just remained hidden and left?
Also have to say I’m not really seeing the grey vs grey here. The sides are very clear cut, even I can’t say I like the one I’m supposed to root for.

We don’t know yet if Sunset will actually be able to handle all the changelings on her own. But yes, I don’t think there can be any doubt that Sunset finished off that queen already. There wasn’t really any need to show it, we got the idea.
I think the reason you see Sunset deprecating her own rule somewhat is because she’s had some time to observe the effects of her governance. Maybe she realizes that she’s pretty much full-tilt ruthless with her enemies at this point, and that Twilight provides some needed balance to things.

This one got a strong dose of complaint early on from several different directions, mostly for character-related reasons. One group disliked the way Celestia and Luna were portrayed, and suggesting that the Celestia is dead certainly didn’t enhance their approval. Another angle came from the people who prefer reformed Sunset, who believe this makes Sunset look kind of evil again. Then there are Sunset haters who just don’t think she should be shown as being so intelligent, which of the three complaints is probably the most preposterous.
People care a lot more about the roles their favorite (or least favorite) characters are given than about the story itself, most of the time. And once negativity is seeded, it tends to sprout and attract pests. I’m referring of course to the people who just enjoy bandwagoning in the hate-train.
The story certainly does have some issues, but I think those are the main reasons for the disproportionate backlash.
Yeah, I’ve been following to see if the “grey vs. grey” premise got developed further, but with this strip it looks like the author really does believe Sunset’s in the right, and Celestia was wrong to choose compassion and mercy over a destroy-all-potential-threats position. At this point I think I might peek in at the ending, but it feels like this comic has strayed far enough from the core of the show that I’m not going to care for it personally.
I’m wondering why so few people are commenting about how and why they love this comic, though; despite the poor pacing and the plotholes, it’s still better written than quite a few works that have loyal and vocal followings.
Let’s do one different this time and have it suddenly switch to spike and owlicious talking about what happened a week ago when sunset fought the changelings.
Right, next page will just be Sunset lying dead in the middle of a giant pile of Changeling corpses.
We won’t ever see half of these things, though, because they’ll happen between the strips.
Come on, you know what’s going to happen, Sunset is going to be able to fight them all off but will end up dying in the end and Twilight is going to cradle her in her arms and go “NOOOOOOOO!”, and then she’ll have a statue built out of her in the Canterlot square and everybody will forget that Celestia ever existed.
There are some things that bother me about Sunset’s plan. First of all, she doubts her abilities as a leader for no apparent reason. And due to that, she is willing to die in battle? Assuming that this happens, this leaves Twilight with the rest of the army, which she has to fight singlehandedly then (yeah, that’s actually bullshit, but it seems the comic assumes that only Twilight and Sunset can defeat changelings). So, I’d say that it’s better for them to fight together. Might be a risk for Twilight but lowers the chance of total defeat.
Yeah, between her sudden self-doubt and stupid suicidal-for-no-good-reason plan, I don’t think that Sunset even has a “last scrap of sanity” anymore. Also, she doesn’t even seem to view Twilight as a friend. Only as the “closest thing” to one.
Except, you know, unicorns. Not to mention Twilight. Preserving her life is part of what Sunset is getting at here. If Sunset loses, Twilight still has her full power, and the loyalty of the royal guard, so they’ll get by.
Hel-loooo, heat-based annihilation!
Things are gonna get hairy…
