Don’t have to like it; by comparison I don’t get the appeal of ponies in socks, but so very many people are all over that x) Everyone has their own interests and preferences.
i never get why people think they’re cute, though. understandably it’s artist choice, but i never got what exactly it added.

…I was kinda joking, like how I’ve seen some comics where a character has to draw something, and then they draw it too realistic and the other guy’s like “What the heck is a nose?”
To add onto all of this, horses and equines in general do actually have belly buttons; because they’re placental mammals x) Sure, theirs don’t look anything like human navels do, but that’s hardly an issue because, Faust ponies talk and act like us, no big deal to give them human belly buttons too for the sake of finding it cute.
i could agree with that headcanon. i’ve always kind of imagined ponies as being softer than normal horses anyways, so longer hair/fur would be a match with that (though texture is another thing).

probably in most cases a belly button would cause people to consider them naked; they can’t put them there exactly because it would be too “risque”. on the whole a stupid reasoning, but probably the most likely one.
The name of the game is headcanon, my friend :P Mine goes off the premise that pony fur is usually just thick enough for belly buttons to not be visible. My character keeps his tan fur unusually short, so that his is always visible.
It’s silly and thrown together, but it works for me x)

So this guy’s gonna have a disappointing life, then. I mean, with his fixation on a body part that doesn’t exist and all.

BG Pone is right, there are no canon belly buttons :3 That said, there is an animation error in one scene of Suited for Success where Dash has a belly button for a split moment when she crash lands in Rarity’s boutique. Which if nothing else shows that at least one of the artists for that episode included a belly button in the sketch process.
i don’t think i’ve seen a belly button on anything in canon.
…And sometimes it feels like everyone has an OC but me. Granted, Scrounge would be a horrible name for a pony. I guess it might work for a diamond dog, though.
