The thing with the lesbian ships is that most of the shippers quite frankly just go with whatever the hell they think would be cute/entertaining. And with a show with a massively disproportionate number of males to females you will inevitably end up with way more f/f ships than m/f ships. The fact that the ratio of males to females was originally 50:50 but got messed with by The Men Upstairs to favour mares in the background is neither here nor there in their logic when trying to reason it out most of the time (Neither is the fact that basically everywhere outside Ponyville it’s 50:50 and the number of stallions appearing in Ponyville has been slowly increasing over time).
 
Lesbian pairings can alse be viewed in the light of being more ‘progressive’ and ‘tolerant’ or some other such hogswash. Me, I prefer at least an element of cold, hard logic when singling out pairings - which coincidentally is why I came up with the rationale that Rainbow Dash being a lesbian actually goes against the spirit of the show’s characters.
 
Tangent aside, the reason for the much larger pool of ‘high quality’ (an entirely subjective term) lesbian Dash content is simply due to numbers. Vastly more female than male characters (especially at the start of it all, this is important) = more lesbian pairings = more fans of these pairings = a larger number of content creators + more people who will upvote good Flutterdash/Appledash stuff than, say, good Soarindash stuff.
 
Having thousands of fans who will upvote basically any piece of content that’s decent (doubly so for better content) will, of course, produce more pieces of content with a better rating than other, less popular ships. This does not mean it is better than any other ships, only that it is more popular. And as we know popularity is a poor indicator of quality - Call of Duty and Fifty Shades of Grey, for example.
 
Personally I feel that, as I said before, fillyfooler Dash is devoid of any and all logic or reason when taken in the wider context of the characters’ original design ethos. Do I go around saying that fillyfooler Dash is stupid, nonsensical and clearly worse than superior hetero Dash ships (this is sarcasm by the way, I know text is a poor conveyor of tone) on the comments of fillyfooler Dash content? No, I just filter the tags I don’t want to see and go on with my life.
 
However when people come into the comments of pieces like this and start bashing it my inner grognard takes over and I spew masses of text detailing exactly why I think that person is incorrect. Fun!

Also the same even more so can be said about FIM fiction, 95% of fics are terrible. fun fact. the incredibly cool G.M.Burrow liked loved my Soarin and Dash. i was surprised when she asked me about the ship and what makes it awesome.  
getting asked something like and explaining that to a show and book writer was totally amazing and awesome an experience i will never forget.  
and its one that you will never get to experience, which frankly at this point i’m glad.  
so no matter what shit you spew across the interwebs i already got a great MLP experience because of my SoarinDash! so HA!
