nah, they are exposed to all this english gibberish thanks to television, we the non-native english speakers can find it hard, since all the US tv shows are nicelly dubbed in the target language.

It’s slang, a slight US country/southern thing, based on how “Mrs.” is pronounced with a bit of a twang. Refering to one’s wife as “the missus” is a very weak evil-ification of the person, and if you watch old television like the Honeymooners etc, it was used all the time then.
