@atalarikt It’s actually dying because they’re trying to compete with it. They toned down all the “monster” bits, and most barely resemble their h’wood or mythological counterparts anymore.
 
They even stole Flash Sentry and just made him a zombie.
 
Equestria Girls dolls are $13-$20.
 
Monster High can go from $25 to as high as $60
 
Which will little kids buy more of? Which will parents relent on more often? Pretty easy to guess.
 
(Some cost so much because so many of them have playset pieces included as well, instead of splitting them apart. Especially in the most recent line, which is supposed to put together into the town on the show.)
 
Also they pump out a shit-ton more clothes….but you can’t buy the clothes separately so once again, you’re pullilng more money down for less product (all them doll repeats) and really annoying parents.  
EqG meanwhile only has about 3 outfits per character, which even though you can’t buy separately doesn’t really hurt as much as needing to buy eight dolls per character per season.
 
They essentially priced themselves out of the market for the normal run. Less interesting look + high price
 
Here, look at the new Draculaura compared to 2011 compared to the original. When you look at them in line jumps, it becomes more obvious about the loss of “personality” and uniqueness. You go from “Obviously so-goffik-I-shit-bats female dracula” to “Generic Archie comics Katy Keane with fangs”

Seems like Mattel, with their Monster High franchise, knew they wouldn’t be able to compete with Hasbro’s MLP:EqG.
 
I know Hasbro using MLP’s popularity to make a sub-franchise to compete against Monster High isn’t a good decision, but hey, just look at the final results; many bronies now like the EqG movies, and rather casual non-bronies play the EqG app and buy the dolls and unironically like them. As for Monster High? Pffftttt.

Sid was unique at his time because he was the only one “shitpostig” but not to a spammy or “repost ogrish” degree, and people were shocked by it.
 
These days, there are dozens a day posting things worse than he ever did, and the reactions are “oh, OK, that’s normal”.
