hmm, i should have known i didn’t make that clear enough. sorry.
i know they probably never planned to kill them. i said “for example” because i wanted to illistrate a point about the bats having rights as living beings.
fluttershy was trying to make an argument on a moral basis that they couldn’t just do whatever they wanted to the bats.
You know, I don’t recall one instance that said they planned to kill them.
Moving them would probably have come first.
“How is ’they’re cute and fuzzy’ just as valid as ’they destroy crops’?”
uh, no. the valid argument i was talking about was how she talked about the fact that despite being destructive pests, they are still living beings with thoughts, feelings, and families. for example, erradicating them would be on par with mass murder.
‘It’s a cartoon’ isn’t really a reason to dismiss the fact that the bats were a pest, especially since this show has had mind-control plots and once showed a criminal rehabilitation program.
You know, it’s weird, they never stated what they were going to do to the bats beyond driving them away.
No actual extermination was mentioned.
It’s a cartoon show. They can’t eradicate someone only because they do some damage. Not saying about villains. For example, In real life, discord wouldn’t be just turned to statue, but smashed to dust and dispersed over far ends of equestria. Same shit with parasprites.
In Australia, we have problems with fruit bats. The bats destroy crops on two levels, on the first level they are simply eating the produce in an unsustainable manner, and on the second, the salt from their urine poisons the plants and makes it impossible for anything to grow again.
Vampire fruit bats would be regular fruit bats on steroids. It takes a much larger number of apples to satiate them, and like Vampire bats, they of course urinate like a busted water main.
And the fact that it’s possible to communicate with them is irrelevant, seeing as they were clearly a mean-spirited species.
And also, they’re wild animals. Wild animals hold no regard for the laws of anyone. Telling them not to eat all food would be like telling a fire not to burn things, or like telling a fish not to swim in your drinking water. They would keep on eating until they run out of food.
Your rights end where my privilege begins.
Wouldn’t their numbers increase and eventully put more trees at risk if they were kept in one place?
And didn’t the communication attempt end in failure?
They help make the crops in the first place.
You know how animals spread seeds and fertilize the soil with their shit, right?
With how big Sweet Apple Acres is, and how small of an area they were feeding on in the first place, keeping them to one area isn’t that much of a bad idea….
Along with the fact that, you know, they can actually talk with the bats.
Gawh, you people are the guys who don’t care about what’s going on with bees, but get so confused about why people in agriculture are freaking out.
How is ‘they’re cute and fuzzy’ just as valid as ‘they destroy crops’?
that doesn’t make much sense. her arguments were valid and she stuck up for what she believed in, the problem was that her “solution” was lacking in forethought
I like Rarity now. Just don’t ask more.
why? and what’s about rest of mane six?
Who’s the pest? Fluttershy or the bats?
Did you mean to say it helps the pest?
How what? How does keeping around a destructive pest help keeping around a destructive pest? I dunno, honestly, i just believe it, because it’s absurd.
How?
Wrong. It helps keeping around a destructive pest.
yeah, that “sanctuary” changed absolutely nothing. what’s to stop the bats from going outside it, and at the rate they eat, it would probably be depleted rather quickly. that’s like thinking you can set aside part of your house for cockroaches and that will somehow stop the infestation.
if they really wanted a peaceful solution, a better idea would have been to find out where they came from, why they left, and (assuming the reason wasn’t depletion of food) fix that problem
Why is it people are unable to understand that keeping around a destructive pest doesn’t help anything?
