The writers know SFA about consistent technology. It’s one of my main gripes about the show. I just go with what most commonly appears, which is pre-industrial stuff. Or if I’m feeling generous, mid-19th century. Usually, however, I’m not.
They have steam trains (industrial revolution). And Twiley herself was able to build a gadget that could open an inter-dimensional portal at the time of her choosing. I think their tech is at least industrial-level.
Plus Pinkie Pie regularly uses what appear to be mylar balloons when launching parties. :)

To be fair to Twilight, it’s a reasonable assumption to make, given she’s from a pre-industrial society. Glass would be the closest thing they’d have to clear plastic.
