I think it ended in Discolighting, or at least hinting that way after the Twilights made up with sunbutt.
Oh stop being so melodramatic, you made me a little bit pissed, so fucking what, join the club with the rest of the universe, I have a legendarily short fuse anyways.
I know exactly how you feel. For a character that supposed to the ones that helped shape THE main character we have little characterization of her.
This fanfic right here. There are just so many things wrong with it, not the least that it turns Twilight Velvet into a total b**** despite the fact that the way the story goes, Velvet’s basically Twilight’s aunt. See, in the story Celestia had her with Velvet’s brother, who died shortly afterward. Velvet decides to blame Celestia even though the circumstances were completely beyond her control, takes Twilight Sparkle away, and then years later allows Twilight Sparkle to enroll in Celestia’s school pretty much to spite Celestia.
Yeah… I think you can see how stupid that is.
It soured my opinion of any story that forces Twilight away from her real parents for some arbitrary reason.
But that doesn’t justify my attitude earlier. And at this point it seems that no apology can make it better, but I will stay say: I’m sorry.
…I completely deserved that rant.
F***, now I feel like I’m nothing more than a hypocrite, considering I keep acting the same way that I decry others for acting like that…
I just fucking hate when people use strawman arguments against me, specially when it’s regarding a character I can’t even bring myself to like anymore.

Anyway the map may show the place but can’t tell anything about it. If Twilight wanted insight on where she is going she would go to Celestia.
Yes.
I’VE SAID A MILLION MOTHERFUCKING TIMES, I DON’T THINK CELESTIA IS A MOTHERFUCKING INFALLIBLE GODDESS, I DON’T WANT CELESTIA TO BE PERFECT, AND I DON’T WANT FOR TWILIGHT TO BE COMPLETELY CODEPENDANT. I JUST WANT- WELL, WANTED - FOR CELESTIA TO BE AN ACTUAL MOTHERFUCKING CHARACTER WITH PERSONALITY, RELATIONSHIPS, AND ACTUAL MOTHERFUCKING RELEVANCE TO THE PLOT.
FUCK, I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHY I’M TALKING ABOUT THIS, I DON’T EVEN REALLY LIKE CELESTIA ANYMORE. BETWEEN HACKS WRITING HORRIBLE FUCKING STORIES, HER COMPLETE FUCKING NEGLECT IN THE SHOW, AND PRICKS LIKE YOU CALLING ME CRAZY WITH STRAWMAN ARGUMENTS, I REALIZED THAT THERE’S NO FUCKING FUTURE IN THIS DEAD-END STAGE PROP AND DROPPED IT LIKE A BAD HABIT BECAUSE EVERYTHING THAT I EVER LIKED ABOUT HER WAS ALL COMPLETE FUCKING BULLSHIT.
Well, we don’t know how the map is gonna work exactly so I’m waiting to see on that.
But Celestia’s role in relation to Twilight is still the same: the motherly mentor and source of wisdom and support. I dare expect her to be involved in the season at a few points, simmilarly to how she’s always been. I don’t think the writers would just ignore her completely as she is far too close to the main protagonist and with a significant role in the world.
I had to guess, the reason the map even exists is that they wanted to make these friendship-spreading adventures frequent and having Celestia involved every time would be awkward. The map solves that, and they can have Celestia show up only when it’s truly relevant.
It’s just an interesting idea, what with the dynamic between the characters involved nearly identical to it already.
Well, that’s kind of the impression I get when people say that Twilight should’ve been an orphan who was adopted by Celestia.
Sorry I flipped out a bit myself, but the whole “Twilight has a strained relationship with her parents because of Celestia” thing is a HUGE pet peeve of mine.
I’m pretty sure people say the opposite of that.
…I’m sorry, but that’s EXACTLY the kind of thing I said I couldn’t stand 9 months ago.
There is NO reason whatsoever that Twilight CAN’T have a perfectly healthy relationship with her parents AND have Celestia as a second mother figure.
And frankly, I’m kind of sick of the “protagonist is an orphan” crap. As the BP said, it’s cliche.
See, you want to know something? You know why some people can’t stand Celestia? It’s not because of alleged “tyranny” bullcrap (I don’t think anyone, bar a few idiots, actually takes that stuff seriously). It’s because of people like YOU who won’t shut up about how Twilight should be completely dependent on Celestia and that Celestia is this perfect goddess who can do no wrong and then flip out when it’s shown that she’s not infallible or all-powerful.
>More than she already does?
The fact that Twilight’s map can warn the Mane Six of threats to Equestria has completely extinguished Celestia’s last role in the show. She might have a point in the show’s universe, but narratively, she’s worthless.
More than she already does? Celestia saw the potential in Twilight, took the filly under her wing as her personal student, taught her everything she knows about magic and guided her way to alicornhood. She is definitely a motherly role model and crucial to who Twilight became.
As for Twi’s parents, I always pictured them as being incredibly grateful to the Princess since most parents want nothing more then for their children to be accomplished and happy, even if they have to be away to achieve that. In a way Celestia helped BOTH of their kids achieve high places and happy lives.
Now, I agree that the parents are superficial in that they obviously don’t have a big role in the show, but they existing doesn’t take away from anything and makes for a nuanced scenario. Many people have plenty of different influences in their lives and it’s entirely possible to have more than one motherly figure in different ways and at different points in time.
TL,DR: I just find it cool that Twilight is a result of her parents supporting her during the early start and then Celestia taking over and opening doors and oportunities for her.
Because Twilight’s parents are pretty superficial, and Celestia needs a reason to exist.
Why make it something cliché?
I actually really like that Twilight has parents who supported and loved her AND Celestia as a second mother figure and mentor. It’s more unique than the ‘she was an orphan’ story. I imagine that while Twi may have grown a tad distant from her parents and closer to Celestia in later years, their relationship is still just fine.
I wonder if we’ll get to actually see Night Light and Twilight Velvet in an episode.
Unfortunately, I don’t remember.
What fanfic was that?
Eh, I always have Twilight’s mom saw her everyweekend before she moved to ponyville.
Actually, that would be an interesting idea, Celestia pretty much replacing Mrs. Sparkle as Twilight’s mother figure, and how they deal with it.
Heck, one fanfic I read actually had a moment where Celestia insisted that Twilight go spend some time with her parents that day. I rather liked that aspect.
