Bronies are just furious because Hasbro fixed their retard pony
cough cough
Sorry, was acting like a Derpy hater there for a moment. Seriously though. I have Derped eyes too, and despite what some very, and I mean VERY, vocal Derpy haters were spreading around, it is not a sign of some kind of mental retardation. Fucking idiots. Yeah and idiot, stupid, ignoramus, numskull definitely do not have a common etymology. That’s just ridiculous.
year late reply, but I just gotta point out how hilarious your comment was to me.
“Her name came from a word which means stupid, not mentally retarded”
not only is that untrue, but “stupid” actually means “mentally retarded”. all these words we use like stupid, idiot, moron, ignoramous, numbskull… They were used for mentaly retarded people in the old days. Being deemed too offensive, they instead used the word “mentally retarded” professionally. It literally means mentally slow, which is why when I hear people say “They’re not retarded, they’re just a bit slow” I also laugh!
Retarded is not a slur, it is the correct term for people with reduced brain functions. What people are getting offended at is not the word, but the meaning. There’ll never be a way of saying retarded that does not offend someone. Wish peolpe’d finally get it through their heads it’s the WAY you say it, not WHAT you say that makes it an insult.
Finally Derpy doesn’t even mean any of that. It is much closer to having the same meaning as Ditzy. But what makes something/someone specifically Derpy over the other words, are the eyes. Those eyes going in different directions have always been called “derp eyes”. The stupid or clumsy or whatever other meanings are only secondary, and come from the way people percieve those who have derpy eyes.
Both my grandad and my niece have derpy eyes. Neither are retarded. And I’m pretty sure Derpy herself is not retarded either. Looking at her episode again, she only demonstrates clumsiness and poor observation (Not paying attention to her surroundings, I don’t mean bad eye sight.). It’s only been all this Derpygate drama that tricked me into thinking she was retarded. But that was something the haters applied to her in order to become offended.
It doesn’t really mean “stupid”, either, just “did something stupid”, or “does stupid things sometimes”.
Everyone derps. Some ponies make a living being cute at it.
But damn do I love jokes about disabilities!
My teacher thought all disabilities were the same and so treated me like a proper retard. She gave the other students work and gave me a colouring book… I kid you not. I went along as it meant I got out of doing work, but it also meant I lost out on 2 GCSEs (Not sure what the American equivalent is, but these are important things to have.).
My roomates often make jokes about me, more often about my weight than my mental problems. And the fact that they can make something so funny out of something I hate so much, makes me hate that little bit less. I can cope being so horribly flawed knowing that I am responsible for making my friends laugh. I can almost begin to accept myself and be happy.
But then the SJWs come along and fight on my behalf, trying to guilt all my friends and make them scared to talk to me incase I get offended. These retard-defenders are the true enemy of retards. Our lives would be so much better without political correctness.
Well, no way this person is going to use ponies as a mouthpiece for their agenda.
you’d think they’d draw a line between “thinking a character is cute despite or because of their differences” and “hating or mocking a character because of their differences” but …
I think they attribute basic enjoyment of her to that.

Yup, disabilities can be really funny as situational humor. It’s not funny when the joke implies the person is BAD for having the disability, though. (they can be bad for plenty of other reasons, obviously. :p )
I almost never see people insulting Derpy for whatever disability she might have, though. So I’m not sure where all this “omg don’t treat her as a joke!” comes from. That’s always confused me.
Honestly, it depends on how you do it. And oftentimes, it seems like the “n word privileges”: characters and people with disabilities can make fun of their own disability, and sometimes, others can do so as well, but you have to be careful that it’s not mean-spirited.
Because bronies are the only evil thing in existence. clearly.
Wait.
The Avatar fandom constantly makes blind jokes about Toph. The actual Avatar show constantly makes blind jokes about Toph. Why has no SJW complained about this? It sure sounds like disabilities are allowed to be funny there.
I don’t think these people participate in any communities, or like ANYTHING other than just feminism. Tumblr Feminism.
Eeyup
I think they think that liking Derpy means you’re making fun of her.
I guess these kinds of… individuals don’t like South Park much, huh?
As far as I know, NOBODY is calling disabilities a joke.
It got merged together with autism during the DSM V update. I’m just reporting what I’ve read, though yeah, there are still people using that term.

…and I hate you too. :) Seriously though that comment came out of nowhere. Care to elaborate a little?
…No it didn’t.
You. I hate you.
