It could be a Mk IIA. That had a three-bladed prop, but no cannons. Not to mention, assuming this is equivalent to early WWII, it could be that they haven’t received a cannon armed aircraft yet.

The whole “uncovered” thing most likely means that they are in an overseas deployed environment. That’s the only place that I can think of that you can be uncovered and still get away with a salute. (Active Army, so I would know)

I’m pretty sure now that’s a MK. V, but I can’t see any cannons so I’m not too sure. Three bladed prop though, that narrows it down.
