The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

Go Watch Helluva Boss
GREETINGS FROM FOUR YEARS LATER.

WOULD YOU BELIEVE MAN OF STEEL IS ACTUALLY NOW CONSIDERED SECOND BEST OF THE DCEU?

IT’S TRUE.

BECAUSE 3/5 OF THEM ARE ABSOLUTE SHIT.
Background Pony #407E
Came here expecting to see people complaining about how bad man of steel was, instead all I got was a successful troll.

Bronies I am disappoint.

No, a conversation can be of any topic and doesn’t have to be an argument. An argument can be a debate, but it shouldn’t be against someone who is just saying lies to get people’s goat.

It takes some skill, no doubt about it, but it’s doable. One of my favorite animes, Gundam Wing, pulled off an ensemble cast magnificently, while still maintaining Heero Yuy as the “front-man”, as it were. Many old disney cartoons I used to watch also pulled it off reasonably well.

I agree that there’s some value and sense in making the best of the situation we’re given, but I also think that there’s something to be learned from a little analysis as well.

It’s true that the finale puts a heavy focus on Twilight herself. Like the series premiere, S2 and S3 opening/finale. The reasoning behind that I think is because she is the one most associated with leadership/power both within the fandom and the target audience. But that comes at the cost of sidelining the other characters.

It’s a cost/benefit dilemma: Too much focus on her friends and Twilight would seem irrelevant. Too much focus on Twi and it would make her friends seem unimportant. It’s a really delicate job finding a balance between the two.

IMO we shouldn’t focus on what could’ve happened but rather, what has happened and enjoy the show for what it is.

Also, risking the entire kingdom for one’s friends is pretty selfish leadership.

The animation was good, but the songs were forgettable.

Don’t forget the part where Twilight is basically the “star” of the whole thing, her friends do nothing important except get captured, and Discord acts like a dunce for no reason. Heck, Discord even had every opportunity to escape, but instead he just stood there looking dumb.

But I did mention that there was something I liked, that being Tirek himself.

Don’t you see, Twilight is willing to risk “everything” for her friends. Sure it sounds strange to hold your pals’ safety over that of the entire kingdom. But when a person is in extreme danger and right down there in the heat of the moment, they would do things that they wouldn’t normally do just to grasp that little sliver of hope?

At this point, I think we’re getting a bit too analytical here.

The primary complaints you have here seems to be the “Deux es Machina” nature of the Rainbow Power and Twilight’s decision to negotiate with Tirek. Like I said before, such plots are inevitable in shows where magic is commonplace. Yes, it’s cliche and kinda just for the toys only. But they did kinda pull it off.

Instead of nitpicking the weaker parts of the finale, why don’t we just talk about it’s strengths.

@RBDash11
The worst? If it hadn’t been for the rainbow power silliness (which no one had foreseen), they would’ve lost everything. How do you “prepare” for that?
Background Pony #1880
@PonyPon
Yes, and that was a much better response. Again, there’s a reason you don’t negotiate in this kind of situation. Once Twilight surrendered her magic, the only thing that could save not only her, but all of Equestria, is the contrived rescue of the writers.

You’re saying that Twilight should pursue a policy of zero tolerance toward Tirek; no negotiation? Go full on mano a mano on him? If she refused to give up her power, he could’ve just finished off her friends right when she’s hesitating. For Twilight at least, it’s a choice between giving up her power for that little hope that Tirek would release her friends and having it forcibly taken from her and get killed outright.

About you’re point on true sacrifice, I think it’s implied that Twilight was preparing for the worst if Tirek went against his own words. Not everything has to be explicitly shown.
Background Pony #1880
@RBDash11
No, the truly brave thing to do is to say, “This guy might kill my friends, but if I surrender, he might kill them anyway, AND me, AND take over. I’m not giving him squat.” That is true sacrifice and responsibility, when you acknowledge there’s no way to save both your friends and your kingdom.

I know TV-land likes to play with different rules, but it’s still totally stupid.

Technically speaking, Tirek was holding her friends as hostages. Twilight basically had no idea what he might do to her friends or whether he would uphold his end of the bargain. Imagine a person in her hooves having to deal with a maniac that has held all his friends at gunpoint.

During that confrontation you can see Twilight struggle with her decision before finally giving in. Instead of being weak-willed, I think it takes a lot of balls to do that; it demonstrates both that she values her friends’ safety and that she is willing to make great sacrifices even when she’s uncertain about Tirek’s intention.
