Some say that the Conversion Bureau stories are one big character assassination for Celestia. I say nay, for they ARE in character…for the “Celestia” we see in the story. After all, who would be better at altering physical states than one who does so as a biological function?
Some people wanna fill the wooooooorld with silly love songs…

Yep. I see.
True….Though she was able to milk several cows out of their milk in no time at all……..You know, I now realize how wrong that was given that cows are sapient in Equestria.
As well, there’s the problem with spells. You remember in Castle Mane-ia, that spell that Twilight used to pretty much freeze her friends?……That raises the question on how long she had it and I’m pretty sure that particular spell could’ve been used in the season 5 opener or an upcoming event. It’s little things like that that catch my attention.
I agree that more consistency would be nice. But in a franchise like this and dealing with magic, well, the writers know they have some room and tend to favor the story.
“her cutie mark story pretty much portraying her as a magic protege”
Well, Twilight is a magic prodigy, but she still has to learn and practice to intentionally use said power. Her cutie mark story had her in an unintentional burst completely out of control.
As for Magic Duel, I assumed Twilight wasn’t sweating because of the weight, but rather because those were fragile living animals she was manipulating and she had to be precise and careful. Does that make sense?
Yeah, that’s a problem that kind of hurts some episodes. Like how in season 1, Boast Busters, Twilight was able to lift an Ursa Minor and do all sorts of other things with barely a sweat as well as her cutie mark story pretty much portraying her as a magic protege…..Actually, season 1 pretty much gave everyone a little more power than later seasons.
It’s almost like everyone kind of got nerfed as of season 2. I mean, Twilight was sweating up a storm just manipulating some animals in Magic Duel. I think the show should try to even out it’s consistancy.
In this franchise, there is not much consistency in the character’s powers I think. ESPECIALLY not in tie in material.
And since it’s mostly magic, there’s no hard science about what a character should and should not be able to do.
Add to that the fact that Celestia and Luna could easily be much weaker than they once were.
Which….I find odd really. The comics and tie in books portray Celestia as having phenomenal magic prowess.
She scared off a dragon that wished to steal the Crystal Heart without even lifting a hoof.
To be fair, the show proper only derails Celestia’s combat prowess.
It’s not like the franchise itself does much better.
A lot of stories derail Celestia’s character. It’s used as a cheap tool to make other characters look better and because the fandom doesn’t really respect the solar monarch.
Peace and luv.
In the versions where the Earth’s been reduced to a “Blade Runner, only worse” situation, she kind of is.
the difference is, she isn´t being hypocritical about it, i admit i only caught the gist of what it is about, but most stories seem to assert that she really thinks she´s doing humanity a favor.
Nobody is the villain of their own story.
Although I do think it likely Chrysalis was the big operator in this story…least in my headcanon.
but the real terrifying Thing is, she is good, as far as her understanding of it goes.
