No it’s nothing fancy.The version of them as kids is from a flashback from a character who lived in a city called manehatten. When the mane six visited that city the two characters are shown as adults who live in the city. I belive they were shown as adults first so the animators taking the effort to make a continuity nod for a flashback (for background ponies none the less)is quote the admirable feat.
