tagging it with a hint or implication(as in “hey does this remind you of anything”)should be fine and useful.

Again, I’m not sure that’s a good idea since the guidelines state tags should be descriptive of the image. It keeps things nice and orderly.

would make anything that involves screencaps or official art and tags like “bedroom eyes” or “suggestive” obsolete/incorrect.

And I’d prefer it so, but those images are uploaded with the express intent of invoking that, so they get the tag. There’s nothing here implying shipping so I don’t see why it needs the tag. As an aside, regular screencaps and the like should only be safe. See also this on the topic.
Shouldn’t you want to remove the flutterpie and appledash tags from this too? Obviously this is not what the tags are meant for.

True, it’s not what they’re meant for but they are in the image, so I saw no reason to remove them. I tried to tag rainbowjack as well but that one apparently aliases into appledash. It’s also why I re-added the not shipping tag. I agree, in hindsight it was kinda pointless but at the time I figured it made sense given the image.

The quickest way to solve this would be to get a mod down here since they have final say. Failing that, if you really feel that strongly, go ahead and add the tag. I won’t be taking it down again. I’ll admit I can get too OCD when it comes to tags and their potential misapplication.

If I tagged this as shipping(obviously it’s not) then I understand if you took issue with that, but I think tagging it with a hint or implication(as in “hey does this remind you of anything”)should be fine and useful.
And yes as I understand it the general rule is what you said, but a strict adherence to that rule would make anything that involves screencaps or official art and tags like “bedroom eyes” or “suggestive” obsolete/incorrect. Shouldn’t you want to remove the flutterpie and appledash tags from this too? Obviously this is not what the tags are meant for.
Also, if it’s not tagged shipping or implied shipping then it’s “not shipping” by default, so I’m not sure what kind of point you were trying to make with the “not shipping tag”

Something like that. I’m just worried that if people started tagging based on personal interpretation or what they might see as implication we’d end up with all sorts of overtagging and tag wars because then you’d have people disagreeing and applying headcanons and whatnot and things will get, pardon my french, clusterfucked.

Better to phrase them as “tag what you see” and “tag what you know” to prevent confusion between terms.

Just saying this because I’m confused and all I know is that site policy was tag what you know, last I checked.

I thought that’s because shipping tends to be prevalent in this fandom. People see shipping because they want to. It’s a personal/subjective interpretation. I don’t see much of an implication either. They’re toys, designed to mix-and-match, like Legos or Transformers, and meant to get Hasbro money. Yes, they look like shipping results but that’s because the fandom has been doing it so long it’d be hard not to with a concept like this.
It doesn’t matter whether this is the implication or intention of the uploader, or the author of the picture.

I think it does matter. Isn’t the general rule to tag images for what they are and not for what people think they might be?

I sort of get where you’re coming from now, that first comment of yours just didn’t really make sense to me. I’m just not sure if it’s correct.

@Solitude
Half the comments here and on that facebook page immediately interpreted this picture as unintentional shipping. It doesn’t matter whether this is the implication or intention of the uploader, or the author of the picture. The implication is there, and many people picked up on it. The way these ponies look, they might as well be magic lesbian offspring. I would argue that for categorization purposes, “implied shipping” is an appropriate, reasonable tag. Like sometimes “suggestive” is tagged because something looks like that, intentional or no.

Well, no, because where is the logic in that? If I made an pegasus oc that works as a baker and named her flutterpie why would that imply shipping? A name which happens to be a ship name used as an actual name without any shipping intent does not an implication make.

That’s a fact of life for most toylines. At least this stuff is relatively cheap and CAN look like what’s on the show if you want it to. Unlike, say, Pinklestia or th ridiculous sixty-dollar Optimus with the tiny head they released for Beast Hunters last year.

Given some of the other tags, I thought the “not shipping” tag was appropriate. You know, just to clarify things.
