Yeah, I don’t think the EG ages match their pony ones. Otherwise, wouldn’t the CMC be younger freshman teens to? I always assumed the EG Mane 6 were younger then their pony counterparts, while the CMC ones were older then their’s.
It’s funny how there’s so much debate in the comments, can’t we agree this cover art is adorable?
Actually, the photo in the movie was of them as teenagers. They even specify that it was taken at the Freshman Fair.
I agree, though, that this cover shouldn’t be taken as canonical. I don’t think it was intended as such - just a fun send-up of Muppet Babies. When we know that they hadn’t even met each other at that age, there’s not much sense in us trying to make it fit into canon.

Remember that EQG Celestia is an ordinary school principal and pony Celestia is over 1000 years old.
I don’t know what that has to do with respect. The “I’m older than you” line doesn’t carry much weight when you’re only a month older and less mature than the person you’re saying it to.

It’s just an example, but it’s more than enough to me to say that we shouldn’t take the comics too seriously. expecially the covers.
I mean, there were even Babs Seed as a teenager in that comic. WhY?
It was hard enough to get any respect for him out of the teenaged mane cast… and now he has the fillies over him too? Despite him obviously being more mature emotionally and mentally than the C.M.C., and the mane cast at times, they all can now pull out the “I’m older than you” line. Poor kid.
I always figured that the mane cast was younger than everyone wanted to make them out to be.
No.
Again, different maturity. Going by what Faust implied, the mane 6 may be physically like 16-18 year olds, but mentally like 18-25 year olds. This, to me, would put filly age around 9-12 (physical) and mentally around 11-15.
So, say, lets take AJ as 17 (mid-range of the group), and getting her CM at 9. That would have AB at anywhere from 1-3, but I’d edge younger on that. But still fitting into the mythos of CMChronicals.
Basically, this means that the CMC can be tiny babies when the rest of the mane 6 were CM-less fillies.
Going back to Masem’s comment, nothing in the show has implied that Dragons mentally mature faster than ponies. And the original casting call for Applebloom called for a girl who could voice an eight year old if I remember correctly.
How about how this cover implies the mane six aren’t likely to be adults? So the CMC is implied to be about 7-9 years old, with most saying they are 8 years old. But the mane six got their marks when they were younger than the CMC. Here they do not have their marks, and the CMC are already born. That would make them younger than 8. Add 8 to that, and that would make the mane six about 16. 16 year olds who own businesses and are princesses. In most countries, you have to be 18 to be an adult.
Spike is home schooled, I suppose I never directly thought about this but I accept it and is probably what I figured in the back of my mind anyways.
Different biologies. Dragons may mentally mature easily, given that they suffer from intelligence loss as they grow older and gain greed. And I’d fully have expected him to be personally tutored by Twilight prior to her being sent to Ponyville - enough to read and write and help with her library tasks. He’s got plenty of time, relative to ponies, to learn other stuff in time.
Still doesn’t explain why Spike, who according to this is younger than Applebloom, is able to be left on his own and doesn’t have to go to school, while Applebloom can’t be left on her own and does go to school. It makes no sense.
Also, the comic covers make no sense with ages.

Pinkie’s only a year younger than Fluttershy, she’s probably just chewing on it for the texture (we don’t really need to explain how her teeth aren’t breaking it)
bah, well at least now there is one pic with the tag wording in the fashion that might be searched for, sometimes it’s really hard to figure out what you are looking for will be tagged as.
The first few pics I found of Spike still as an egg, were only tagged “spike” and “egg”, nothing special otherwise.
