Why do you keep bringing up Ristar, and other games to bash ‘em?
I love “Ristar” personally. The final boss was a li’l hard, but I’ve discovered easier ways to beat him during the battle.
Like if you manage to attack him during his one-hit kill “black hole” attack, (which you can avoid by grabbing and holding one of his mini-enemies to avoid getting sucked in) it’ll cancel said attack, and he’ll start preforming his lightening attack, which you have to jump to the side to avoid, (or grab one of his tiny minions, Ristar is involnerable when preeforming a grab attack) and some other tricks.
So he’s really not impossible, I’ve faced harder enemies in Megaman games, and such.
I never got into the PS1 honestly, but the PS2 was pretty cool, my sister had one. Admittedly, I guess more of a Nintendo, or Sega person.
(“3D Shinobi 3” is coming to the 3DS Eshop! SQUEE!)
Over here, it was the Sony Playstation that stole our hearts and (parents) wallets in our childhood
Ah… ’90s gaming…
THE BEST PLAYED HERE
Mode-7! -Nintendo
I know, it’s like the Famicom & NES, or the Sega Genesis, and Megadrive.
Me to, they would be pretty fun to carry around.
I’m fine with simple games, I love “Pac Man,” and “Balloon Fight” after all.
PC Engine and TG16 are the same thing – Japanese name v. US name.
I hope they start coming to the 3DS eShop. I already have most of what I want on the Wii (and then an actual disc copy of Dawn of Ys).
Soldier Blade or Gates of Thunder in 3D would be glorious – especially with Soldier Blade’s parallax.
The thing with Space Harrier, by the way, is that it’s a very simple sort of game, so if that’s offputting, it might not be for you. But if you want the kind of pure, simple over-the-shoulder shmupping it provides it’s basically perfect.
Funny thing is, I heard the 8-bit NES versions of those were better games.
And also had horrors in the form of Talespin, Darkwing Duck, and Batman which were unplayable.
I have that on my Eshop “Wish List” (I like that feature, helps you keep track of the things you want, and I think it also gauges to Nintendo what the “most wanted” games are.) but I never played “Space Harrier” before. It looks good from the videos I saw.
The best thing about the Sega 3D classics is, they’re actually cheaper then the Wii Virtual Console versions. Sega said they’ll release the second batch of their old-school 3D Sega games worldwide simultaneously if the first set does well. (Sonic & Streets of Rage alone should do quite well.)
If not, we might have to wait awhile for them…
The PC Engine? Do you mean TurboGrafX 16? Yeah, it also had some pretty cool games on it. (I have a few on my Wii even. Looove Bomberman ‘94, and Castlevania Rondo of Blood.) But yeah, shame it didn’t become popular in the USA.
I remember before Nintendo launched the Eshop, they stated TurbografX games were going to come to the 3DS’s Virtual Console service, but so far none have oddly.
I guess they’re debating on if they should make them 3D, or not. (Which actually requires them to reprogram the old games. It’s not as easy as you think to remake games in 3D.)
3D, or not, I hope they come out eventually. Love to have a portable “Bonk the caveman.”
I wanna get Space Harrier 3D. Just… portable Space Harrier in 3D is super tempting, even if I already have MAME/Shenmue as an option.
Although I have to say, from that Generation, the PC Engine was probably the best console and it’s a shame it couldn’t take off in the US because daaaayumn it was nifty.
I guess…?
I bought it, it’s pretty good, and has some nice options in it. Including the option to save, (though it has to be done manually like the Virtual Console’s “Restore Points.” No “suspend” feature) you can enable/disable the spindash, (from every Sonic game afterwords, it does come in handy in the game) and you play the Japanese version, or “international” version.
(Only differences being one has more scrolling background effects like with the clouds, and Marble Zone’s underground area, and “wavey” effects when underwater.)
oh lawd…
Doomed since 1988/89/90.
Or whenever the Mega Drive was released in your region.
Nice comeback!
