Actually, Changelings are just a species that feeds on love to survive. Considering they’re a magical species, friendship=magic and love is the strongest kind of friendship there is, therefor love being the strongest kind of magic. They don’t feed on the love itself, but rather the magic created from it.

Depends on what they all have in mind.

Once they found out about the changelings, they started fighting. Not really the time to express confusion, and no one ever expressed familiarity. Cadance did explain what changelings were when she confronted Queen Chrysalis, so she at least thought that some explanation was needed.
 
I’d place Discord’s theoretical creation of the changelings prior to his first defeat, but there was probably a couple of months between the Manes fighting Discord and the Wedding. Enough time to at least sample the menu, if not thoroughly.
 
For the record, I don’t believe this theory, but I do think that it is a fun one.

Discord was not that long ago. For her to be born there raise an army and then go check out the rest of the menu before returning.
 
Also who says they never heard of them? They left no trace of being there before Cadance outed the Queen as a changeling nor did anyone seem confused about what they were when they found out.

Nah, I doubt Discord and the Changelings have any connection. They may not have even existed as far back as his ancient reign.
