You have a point. However, so does Zincy—leaving Tyrion alive for gloating purposes was an epic mistake.
Trion was an ass-pull yea, but you know someone from the lore was going to be wielding the Ash Bringer in that fight no matter what. And he pretty much invited the one weapon that could go toe to toe with Frostmourn right to his doorstep.
Plus, turning his Death Knights against him was what put Ash Bringer back in his enemies hands.
It was actually a solid plan. Lure in the enemy’s elite, take out the one member of the group that poses a threat, then have your way with the rest. If not for a last-minute asspull by the writers, LK would have walked away from that battle with some nice new recruits and the only threat to his victory wiped out.
