Every coin has two sides guys. Always remember that.
Anyways, my head-canon is that Diamonds mom is named Pearly Posh, and unlike her daughter is actually quite kind. She knows Diamonds a bit of a brute but she tries to help in any way she can, like any good mother does 83.

Oh. I made myself sad.
Unless maybe… Spoiled Rich is her stepmother.
Two years later. ;)
Plus, still awesome artwork and a fun Alternate Universe idea.
Took a while, but I was proven wrong.
For Diamond Tiara, yes, it’s bs…apparently.
Having a kind, supportive mother is BS?
I don’t quite understand your motivations anymore.
I don’t really think it was any one thing but rather a culmination of things.
Believability is subjective in this case, and I really enjoy the ideas people are putting out. Plus, that line from One Bad Apple isn’t cast in stone since the show has retconned itself before. Your idea about divorce is really appealing and actually makes DT a little sympathetic.
@SpacePaladin
This idea I had not considered. Applebloom and company certainly raise havoc, and it’s never been intentional. I wonder what she might have done to make Diamond Tiara an enemy.
@Background Pony Number 17
Also very possible. Her father seemed more level-headed than Diamond Tiara. I kinda wish we could see DT’s mother next season, though I doubt it. She’s the CMC antagonist and probably won’t go away or reform until after they’ve gotten their cutie marks.
I figured Diamond Tiara’s mom was one of those monsters you see on “Toddlers and Tiaras”. She treats DT like a china doll and refuses to discipline her. Filthy Rich tries to, but he’s a henpecked husband who’s afraid of crossing his wife.
I’ve personally disliked the idea that Diamond Tiara was secretly jealous of Applebloom. Despite the lighthearted brush they paint her with, Applebloom is a pretty flawed character. I’ve preferred the idea that DT hates Applebloom for her genuine personality flaws,
Yeah, I remember that line. While your thinking is more believable, I just assumed it as her being deathly afraid of Applebloom telling her father, the one pony she actually looks up to in her life.
She does seem nice and her advice is good.
Although I have trouble accepting this as Diamond Tiara’s behavior, including season 4 teasers, is despicable. I wonder if her mother would need to stop being gentle and start applying more tough love.
@lumpfish
This would make sense to me except for a brief line in One Bad Apple. Babs threatened to tell Diamond Tiara’s mother about her rotten attitude, and Tiara was instantly afraid. I think that’s a signal she does have a mother present in her life, though divorce is a real possibility.
My own view of DT is that she has trouble making connections with ponies due to lack of trust. She can’t know if her father’s friends like him as a pony, or just like his money. This could make her more insecure about her own relationships. So she is instantly resentful of ponies with deep bonds like Applebloom.
To be honest, I think somewhat the same about Applebloom. Big Mac and Applejack are probably constantly pressed for time, Granny Smith fades in and out of senility, and her parents are nowhere to be seen. Combined with her constant bullying at school, they don’t feel right reigning in her excesses like her lying, stealing, drugging, destruction of property, and endangerment of sentient life.
That was always my assumption. He’s a good guy, but she’s a little too much for him to handle. He’s afraid of losing her too, and that causes him to be far too lenient.
Her mom seems nice.
She’s a bit of a brat because he’s an unstable parent who’s always afraid he’s mistreating his child. He has good intentions (as shown when he drags her to play with Applebloom) but he’s just too busy with running a business to spend as much time with his daughter as he’d like.
The bags under his eyes are the most telling.
