On the same token, I’m kind of disappointed that they went with the arc that they did. They could have given us a really cool adventure story about them ruling the Crystal Empire together and defeating a new threat.
But the writer wanted to make Oingo Boingo references and put Shining Armor/Cadance into molds that restricted them.
Cook/Price write adventure stories best, IMO.

If a character’s popularity is completely based upon their ability to be “exploitable,” I’d rather not have them be the focus.
True, but it gets attention for the stuff that should.
That’s not what makes a good character.
