Like I said, good intentions, completely messed up reading of the demographics.
@Background Pony
I will only reply with one thing, and that is that just behind Woona, Gamer Luna is the second most popular interpretation of the Princess.
I said “Gamer Luna”, not just “Luna”. You can like a character even if you don’t care for a fanon version.
From what I got, they wanted to make it to compete to begin with and took the massive amount of humanizations created as a hint that it would be well received in the periphery demographic.
Don’t you know? We all love Luna here. Any impression otherwise is blasphemy and will be eradicated.
Just because the execs at Hasbro are out of touch with what makes our fandom (and the little girl part of it) tick doesn’t mean the intent wasn’t there.
They’re doing a terrible job of it, then. Targeting that audience, I mean.
I seem to recall Andy Price and Katie Cook specifically saying that they were aiming for the same audience as the show.
Yes the fans wanted Equestria Girls. we were so behind that. -
__-Though it is still weird.
I won’t, Instead I will be a nice guy and give the reason to you.
@Princess♠Molestia
Unpopular opinions are welcome.
@Background Pony
I wasn’t planning on reading the comics anyway XD
And yet those have so many more nods to the fandom, yet get no flack.
Shrug go figure.
I can’t really say it has. The most significant one, Derpy, did affect the story, but only because it was part of the plot. The others just seem like cute (and appreciated) nods.
gets stoned for being wrong
Because the comics target bronies specifically and are generally better
E-fucking-xactly.
Fans bitch and moan all the time about practically non-existent “pandering” in the show, but when the comics do some sort of reference every other page nobody bats a goddamn eye.
And besides, it’s not like said “pandering” has affected the show in any significant way.
Go ahead, try and prove me wrong, I’ll grab my popcorn.
Please promise me you’ll stay away from the comics; I’m afraid you might get an aneurysm from the amount of pandering in them.
Actually Magic Duel was written in 2011, before the show had the fandom it does now.
Equestria Girls, from what I know was made to compete with monster high, though Katie Cook did say the high amount of humanized art also had something to do with it. So interpret that one as you will.
I know it’s an unpopluar opinion, but what we have in the show doesn’t seem like pandering to me. Though Gamer Luna being put in. Oh yeah. That would be it all the way.
Actually you’ve got a good point, this reminds me of those Facebook posts where they say something completely uncontroversial then say “like if you love god” and “ignore if you love satan” and stuff like that.
They seem more like slight irrelevant nods to me (bar Derpy speaking, that one was a complete shout out to the fandom)
Just look at Magic Duel and Equestria Girls.
