Actually I think some of the 3rd set didnt show up until the tv series, but they were alongside ponies from the movie.
Surprise for sure wasnt until the tv series.
Well you see, the ‘Dream Valley G1’ ponies are separated into 3 sets:
1st set (such as Applejack, Firefly and Twilight)
from the 1st special, Rescue at Midnight Castle
[edited and re-released as final episodes of MLP n Friends season 1]
2nd set (such as Sundance and Baby Moondancer)
from the 2nd special Escape from Catrina
[ Edited and re-released as final episodes of MLP n Friends season 2 ]
3rd set (such Surprise, Posey, Shady, Wind Whistler, Galaxy, etc.)
from the My Little Pony: the movie and the following 2 seasons of My Little Pony n Friends
There are a few characters and places that remain consistent, so its clearly all the same canon continuity.
So there’s 2 sets of Dream Valley ponies we only see for 2 30 minute specials,
and the 3rd and final set we see for a movie and 61 fifteen minute episodes!
If you look up screencaps and animations on derpibooru for each of the G1 ‘Dream Valley’ animation sets (the names in bold), you’ll see a visual difference between the art styles too.
And of course, there’s also the My Little Pony Tales ponies, which are technically still G1, but a much later released cartoon series, and definitely a whole different canon.
Slice of life comedy instead of ‘Dream Valley’ serious action-adventure stuff.
I hope this helps. :)

Oh no, the gif’s source is 12 times bigger, though if this series didn’t run in segments half the size of G4’s (like Adventure Time does), it would be 24 times bigger.
Is the file size too big? I thought it’d be better to merge the four tournament gifs into one, it’s the same scene.
I assumed it was a full episode based on the file size.
Oldschool animators were very lazy and shiftless so what can you expect?
Yeah, it’s animated kind of bad in some episodes and scenes, but I think the running and jumping animation here is pretty good.
There’s no talking in this scene except for Megan announcing Gingerbread and Shady for the ‘Earth Pony Jumping Finals’.
That actually became a pretty stereotypical thing people would parody in jokes about pre-G4.
I’m not seeing that. Except for Shady’s last jump, but with that angle running up I think they were going for dramatic slow mo anyway.
I had not considered that and I’m sorry for that lag, but on the other hand I was already intending to stop for a long while after these four ‘tournament’ gifs. I might take a look at the forums, thanks.
The pages are fine (well form the derpibooru’s referential), we could search the animated tag with no problem they’re just a bit slower.
But maybe you should still consider to lower your gif upload rate. There is already a lot of gif and screencap from the show compare to the art content for the g1 tag. Perhaps revive the pre g4 forum topic (it’s buried deep at least on page 12 in the general section) or create a g1’s one with an interesting first post if you just want to cause discussions about it.
You mean like the G1 search results?
Cool.
Gingerbread might be the most athletic baker ever.
