If I remember the episode, the sunstone being taken away will make flutter valley become a place of despair and it will become all gross and stuff or something like that, which is what the witches like. Basically, screw reason, the plot demands it.

Wow, so the comic still has Pound Cake flying and Pumpkin Cake using magic. The page actually raised the issue of how can even two Earth Ponies can deal with foals with those abilities.
