I agree with the fact that anyone who NEEDS something as frivolous as attending a con should be willing to give something in return. Simple things like sketches or whatever. You’re an artist, you have the skill to create something.

I’d personally suggest offering these sketches far in advance with the option of picking them up at Bronycon for those who are also attending. Perhaps in a nice little frame.

Sheesh. This person seems to believe that asking for an opportunity to go to a convention, spread your art and name around, and make money is less important than sitting at home and trying to get people interested in your art by not being proactive. Why not follow his advice? Let’s all quit our high(to middle) paying jobs that involve more than 15 minutes drive time to work, for little-to-pocket lint pay by driving into town.

I think I am going to unfollow this blog and add this tag to my blacklist, because these confession are most of the time really stupid and unfunny.

How else will PurpleTinker steal money from the fandom to finance his new Cadillac?

so don’t give them money. Anyone can ask for money, and anyone can give other people money, and there’s nothing wrong with either right. “there’s more important things…” there’s always bigger problems, there’s always starving kids in africa, does that mean no one gets to have fun? “Sorry you wanted to buy this game, there was a hurricane down here and the victims need that money more”.

I agree 100%. I really dislike bronies. I’m more of a “Gentleman That Watches Minature Horse Shows”.

Alright, fair enough. As stated in the confession, I’m not going to stop anyone from using these fundraising tactics. They have every right to do so. I just feel that some people take a little bit too much advantage of this, and are overshadowing those who actually need the money to keep the roof over their heads.

Hey bronies, if you wanna donate to something good, throw your money at Food Not Bombs.

Well it doesn’t matter what version it if for me, I agree anyway. Unless they’re offering something in return, it just comes off wrong to me as well. Just do cheap sketch commissions and advertise it as a special even for raising money for Bronycon or something. Then you get funds and the funder’s get something out of it too, everyone wins.

Again, all those people you mentioned above who say they’re in dire need of financial help to pay the bills and for food should file for unemployment benefits. It’s stupid of them to be asking for handouts from their fans when they could just file for those benefits. It’s better and secure than asking random strangers.
