It might sound crazy, but these toys are a blessing in disguise.

If I was going to play with dolls I’d rather have Monster High than Equestria Girls. At least I could repaint them pony colors or something. :P
Well, it’s worth a shot. Whether it does well, or not is not up to us, or Hasbro, it’s up to the consumers/children/parents. That’s all I’m saying.
Sounds like you really like Monster High dolls. :P
EQG was made to go up against monster high. Little girls already like MH. MH dolls are bigger, have much more articulation than EQG dolls, way more clothing (EQG dolls include only a skirt with basic dolls, and the rest is plastic), better designed / quality clothing, less awful looking head sculpts, and feet (something that apparently Hasbro gave up on in a fit of embarrassment) . More importantly, they are the same price as EQG dolls, and little girls are already nuts for them.
If I were a little girl who likes monster high, what reason would I have to switch to Equestria Girls? Hasbro has never had a successful fashion doll line, and yet some bronies seem to think a line as crappy as Equestria Girls is going to finally get their foot in the door.
Remember how bronies used to hate on Cadance, and say no girls would buy her toys, or the wedding stuff? My niece says that’s her favorite pony, and apparently other girls are getting those toys.
I even know a female brony friend of mine said she liked E.G., and is planning on buying the dolls, so some toy collectors aren’t to bothered by them either.
Heck, some bronies even bashed the normal pony toys, and they sell well, even if they aren’t 100% accurate to the show. (My niece did say she wants Applejack to have a hat though.)
I think we will all be better off if the dolls fail. Like the image above says, I would be more worried if they were high quality. These things are going to be in the clearance aisle before you know it, assuming they are even kept on shelves long enough to not get sent back to Hasbro.
The reason Ponies sokd well is because MLP is the definitive cute animal toy for girls, and Mattel currently bas nothing to compete directly with it. Hasbro is basically bringing a go cart to a Nascar race with EQG, though. There is no way these things are going to be able compete with Mattel.
If the dolls bomb, there is no way Hasbro is going to go back and fund more EQG animation. Dumb as they may be, even they are not that stupid.
The crew of the show is of course going to show enthusiasm to something they worked on. They have two choices: hate it and have a horrible time working on it, or make the best out of it and try to make it good. But does that mean they want to have more crap handed to them from Hasbro, and be expected to make it good? I kinda doubt it.
I didn’t have huge hopes for it either, but after seeing it, I have to admit it wasn’t bad in my opinion. It had a few cliche’ things, but also a few things/moments I wasn’t expecting either. It’s not something I’ll watch a million times, but I enjoyed it, and it turned out better then I thought it would, because I gave it a chance.
Also, I doubt the makers would want it to bomb, in fact, alot of ‘em like Meghan, and Sibsy seemed enthusiastic about E.G. Your opinions don’t reflect those of the makers of the show.
I hate Equestria Girls because of how extremely cliche it is:
This show was supposed to break gender stereotypes.
Its almost like the writers sided with the bronies and planned for this movie to bomb. Like “Screw this! Let this move bomb and let’s all focus on Season 4! The last thing we need is another cash grab!”
If the mirror’s morph spell works both ways, there’d be no big deal in that.
Also, I don’t know why you blame Hasbro for everything “wrong” with the series. Aside from the occasional toy-etic episode, (like the wedding episode, and the crystal empire) they give the show’s makers ALOT of freedom with the show from what I’ve seen. The show is made by DHX for the most part, not Hasbro. (They just license, fund, and approve the show.)
So if Hasbro decided to do a crossover episode where the anthro characters came into Equestria, you would be fine with it?
The “drama” on brony sites is solely the fault of the fans, not the product. (A product that isn’t even targeted to them, I must add.) If E.G. has no effect on the main pony series regardless if it does well, or not, why even care? You’re being overly-paranoid.
The damage has been done to the fandom by EQG already. If Hasbro gets the only message not to spend more money on it that they will understand (not making their investment back), then EQG goes away, and things go a little bit back to normal. If it makes tons of money we will never see the end of it, and it will keep clogging up Equestria Daily and Derpibooru, and for all we know it will eventually lead to a crossover in the main show.
If EQG is cancer, then it needs to be amputated so we can start chemo.
I never said it would go under if E.G. fails. I was making a remark to the people hoping Hasbro loses money, and wants them to “suffer,” for making E.G. I think some of you guys are kinda “biting the hand,” so to speak.
It’s ok if you don’t dig E.G., I don’t have huge hopes for it either, but honestly I’m not bothered by it’s existence either. I guess I’m “neutral” overall.
It might not be a “waste of money.” If little girls like it, then that’s all that matters. I will say, the doll designs could be “better,” but the commentary on the above image just seems “spiteful” to me, and sense they said E.G. won’t effect the MLP-line, or the MLP show, then I don’t see any “gain” for bronies if E.G. fails.
It would be impossible for EQG to lose that much money, and I don’t want it to. I want it to not succeed, because it failing will mean that Hasbro will not waste more money on it than they have already. I think they were misguided to make a high school version of MLP, and if EQG fails badly enough I will see it as an indictment of the direction Hasbro has been taking the franchise in as of late.
Ya know, there is a middle ground here. I don’t blame you for being wary of entitled fans, as many have made me facehoof, but does that mean that we have to be strictly for everything Hasbro does? Of course not. You don’t have to act like you own the series and they have to pander you, no, but many people are upset over this for the same reasons Lauren Faust is obviously upset about it, and why shouldn’t they be? Why shouldn’t we ask for better? In fact, Lauren said almost exactly that in an interview she did a while back.
I think it’s a good thing to pressure a large company into being more socially responsible, not just going along with everything they do.
That said, there’s a lot of hate going around, which really doesn’t help anyone. But there is a middle-ground, you just have to be reasonable.
Now.
As I understand it, Barbie is bigger than Hasbro, and Hasbro is bigger than all the rest of the world combined.
Besides roughly sharing the same concept of having MLP characters with two legs, I really wonder if the EQG movie and toyline have /anything/ to do with eachother.
I mean if people were complaining about the regular MLP toys being off model…
I don’t. I just don’t like the ones that act like brats, or anyone that acts like a brat really.
Prefer to lay blame on those that deserve it.
I do dislike bronies as a collective whole.
GI Joe is Hasbro.
Oh, right. Damn, Barbie must be an absolute juggernaut.
