It’s an educated guess from working in a large media company with public facing employees (like the writers are, in this case). We’d get loads of personal emails, tweets, forum raging, online petitions whatever complaining loudly about X, which we’d simply laugh off.
 
Then we’d get a formal notice from management saying they’d been contacted by this or that “concerned whatever” soccermom-filled organization’s lawyers, and shit got changed.
 
Money is what gets things changed. Crazy people on the internet are not a source of money. Kid’s parents are.

I’m going have to second this, because most of the things metioned in the post sound more like over-the-top parodies of social justice types rather than legit examples. Kind of like that “offensive ponies” meme that pops up from time to time.

Believe that if you want, but the evidence doesn’t bear it out. For one, soccer moms aren’t the type to use the word “ableist”, which Amy Keating Rogers specifically said was in several of the anti-Derpy emails.
