Many years later and um.. pretty much Spike is badly hindered in EQG by being stuck as a dog.  
Not really fair for him and their reasoning on why he isn’t allowed to be human is just terrible.
 
Really wished they had it so he gains the ability to be human in the human world honestly..

In the show he isn’t a pet but in our world he is a small talking purple and green dog he is not a pet he is a companion

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

Someone in the comments (I can’t find who now) said that the art style there doesn’t match the teaser art for Equestria Girls and I agree. In fact I could swear that I’ve seen this dog before and that these pics are just edits. I think it was some older incarnation of Pound Puppies, but just can’t remember. I’m going to reserve judgement on Equestria Girls until I see the actual show.

Whatever the truth is, he’ll probably get the short end of the stick, I mean the little guy gets terrible episodes and has been used as a gag more than anything as of late.
 
Going by this, it’s not too unlikely he might turn into a lesser animal if he features in this series… hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t get brought along or gets a few passing mentions at best or something.

Yeah but the difference is the CMCs are Rarity and Applejack’s sisters (well two of them anyway), so it’s not like they’re going to be anything other than human if the mane 6 are.
 
Personally I think this is hilarious. The rage of butthurt spike and Sparity fans all over the interwebs is delicious.
