I was openminded too first, watched the movie, kinda liked it even. Then I had my moment of epiphany when I watched a My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic episode again at the end of July and when it suddenly felt cringeworthy to me, because when I heard their voices that are in EQG too I saw them as humans suddenly and my brain completely projected EQG on it.  
It was weird. Almost like brainwashing. That’s when I realized that this movie is no good thing. It almost ruined my first watching of “Magic Duel”. I wiped all my stuff I had downloaded from the movie, the movie itself, the songs, the Human Derpy scenes and some videos with bronies freaking out over Human Derpy’s appearance in the credits from my computer and decided to never touch it again.
 
When I heard of it I expected, with how revolutionary My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic turned out, a similar revolution with EQG and a movie with highschool concept done right, something dark like “Buffy”, with all sorts of nightmare creatures and the highschool life only as a side scenario, but no. The exact opposite.  
You listed it perfectly. Cliched highschool movie by the book.
 
I’m still, even though I’m the only one, in the boat that DHX makes EQG bad on purpose, because it never wanted to make this movie and was forced to it and because it wants to keep Hasbro from getting stupid ideas with it, like, replacing My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic with a bland human franchise.  
Because we all know that DHX can do better.

Yeah, and while I didn’t exactly go into it with high hopes, I kept an open mind. Maybe it would be funny, and spoof the classic high school tropes by overplaying them ridiculously or being satire. But no, no, instead they played each trope entirely straight. Same goes with Rainbow Rocks and all the band cliches (the third act near breakup, the members fighting over creative control, etc.), and I’m guessing Friendship Games will do the same with sports movie cliches.

It’s a neverending battle. At least not ending as long as EQG exists.  
But it’s one of those battles that are worth to be fought, because EQG is objectively hideous and the crap My Little Pony got out of with G4.

Too bad he removed it, though I kinda see why he did. People seem to have strong opinions about EQG either way and this would provoke a flamewar.
