You perfectly summed up why I don’t like Discord’s character post Season 3. It was the writers’ fault for making everypony that’s not Fluttershy like that. If they wanted the ponies to convey love and tolerance, then why was Discord the exception?

That could be also why. I’m not a Star Trek fan but I would not be surprised if this were the writers’ mindsets. He may be based on Q and has his voice actor but trying to make Discord a complete carbon copy of Q did not go as planned.

You know what, I think the reason why they fucked Disord up so bad is because the show tried to bend over backwards in order to actually make him Q. Q only worked specifically because he was a omnipotent, malevolent, neutral entity who truly only desired to test the main cast, who also had no way of permanently dealing with him. He’s not a character that is meant to be redeemed or reformed, but remain a recurring obstacle for the heroes to overcome. You can’t have a character do both because those two ideas conflict on a conseptual level, but that’s what they tried to do with Discord and it failed miserably.
 
As for the epsiode idea, it needs to be a two-way process. Your right about Discord, but the others needed to do a better job at meeting him halfway. Someone like him can’t change overnight and treating him like someone to just be tolerated enough until someone else deals with him was doomed to fail. Discord’s betrayal was an inevitability with how his situation was being handle.

Discord needed a Deja Q episode where he’s confronted with his own behavior and why he’s generally disliked by others. There are moments across the series, like the end of the Season 4 or the series finale, but they don’t stick or come so late that it doesn’t matter.

I don’t hate Discord being in an epsiode, I hate how an episode handles him. For whatever reason, someone decided that Discord must be an antagonist in every epsiode he’s in while almost never being the protagonist and everyone except the character who reformed him must despise being around him at all times. Which is detrimental to a character you are trying to redeem. The one time he is an actual protagonist in an epsiode and everyone doesn’t treat him like the Plague just walked in is Discordant Harmony and that’s one of the best episodes of the entire show.
