What’s funny is I know an Afghan vet in our RPG gaming group who’s always gung ho about cracking skulls and doing violence.

This. This is why war fucking sucks. People who watch war movies on tv and say “That’s damn cool.” Have no fucking idea how horrible war really is. Only the soliders who have gone through it and lived through it knows the horrible truth about war.
 
And that brutal truth is that war is just one huge mass killing and nothing more. They say we go to war for freedom. Freedom? Ha… If we’ve gained our freedom a long time ago then why are we still going to war?
 
War will only end for us one way and one way only… …And that’s only when we’re dead.

We warned them. We warned them and they kept coming. None of us really wanted to start the firing, but when they got close someone shot and it was just enough… to get everyone going. The bullets flew, spears fell short, they knew they lost… so why did they keep coming? We had tears in our eyes, we had stopped firing. The survivors were crawling on the ground using their spears for anchors to move. We didn’t think this would happen.
 
We just thought it would end.
