I want to know, too.
I think they both got into a bad situation neither were entirely prepared for, and they both should’ve talked about things before hand better, as well as afterwards. I don’t think it’s fair to say it was entirely Jet’s fault, though he should’ve manned up and done better than he did. Delta was somewhat selfish herself. Playing a blame game isn’t going to solve anything though.
Welcome to life.
well, it’s not apogee’s fault, so she shouldn’t have to suffer.

That does sound pretty darn fun ^^
alas, nopony uses those words anymore…
@Background Pony #614D
zeitgeist?
That wasn’t a joke, that really happened. And leitmotif is a music term.
Now you don’t even see the word in fan comics or RPs. The leitmotif is fading away…
“Mom! Vegas is parked in the front driveway… Again…”
In MLP, Vegas comes to you.
Everyone is talking about the story line and the very first thing that I noticed was the Las Pegasus casinos in the frigging clouds.
If she didn’t care or wanted to talk to her, she would just ignore her for the whole day, but she doesn’t do that. She allows Apogee to help her in her work and she isn’t afraid to start a conversation with her daughter. She also cares enough to remember what Apogee tells her.
Well, the envoirment that Delta lives in is kinda of a mess. You can’t really “clean up” a junkyard, even tough it’s still one of the cleanest Junkyards I saw. Hell, even the inside of the caravan is more “cleaner” than it used to be. In “Concessions” it is written that:
Then, if you look at the 4th story page, besides of a towel(?) in the background, there is nothing on the floor.
Hell, even if you compare the 1st page of the comic with this line from “Concessions”:
You will notice that the junkyard itself is much more clean and organized. Now, if Delta lived in a mess for years, then why would she randomly decided to clean it all up, if not for Apogee’s sake.
I kinda hoped that Trash would fit the role of a “shoulder to cry” as she seemed to be the only pony close to Delta who shows any sort of feelings to the pegasus. But for some reason, they stopped appearing together.
Then again, as I said, Delta’s being a mother is a very important part of the story. It should probably also play into her “redemption”.

delta doesn’t take care of apogee, doesn’t talk to her, just ignores her. lots of alcohol, toxic waste and sharp metal for a foal to play around with too. apogee even has to remind delta to feed her. imagine if your mother couldn’t even look at you without feeling hurt and betrayed. wouldn’t that mess you up as a child?
delta does have… an affection for apogee, but that makes her cut off the discussion. delta can’t tell apogee how she feels, because apogee is her daughter, so how is apogee supposed to help? delta needs to have someone she can scream at and cry with, not someone she feels compelled to protect. if I was doing this story, apogee would either be helpless to stop her mother’s self-destruction, or grateful to someone else who did. what little of a “good mother” delta is, is just hurting her more.
and I was intentionally drawing attention to that sentence fragment, because you didn’t say ‘Instead of her being portrayed as a jerk who can’t move on with her life, it could be turned into a beautifull story of a person full of love, but unable to accept help from someone who wronged her, because her “pride” is the last thing she has.’ we put way too much virtue on someone for being a mother, or even on someone for loving their child. I agree with the rest of the sentence, pretty much.
Those are probably the best characters in the whole fandom from the story that’s still ongoing. ^^
@redweasel
Could you paste whole sentences when you quote me? You kinda misrepresented what I said.

@Meanlucario
Delta is a mother, no doubt about that. That’s a serious part of her character, and one of the more endearing parts of it. She took care of apogee for a few years (4 I belive) after her birth, and even after that she made attempt on getting back together with Jet for her sake. She even took a picture of Apogee from that event and keept it for 10~ years on her wall, with her graduation photo (Something she is proud about; something that brings her “positive” memories).
Even now, she’s still a pretty damn good mother. She takes care of Apogee, even tough it forces some level of contact with Jet, which brings her pain (Which shows that her love for Apogee is much stronger than her hate for Jet). Even tough her life isn’t very good or luxiourous, she still gives Apogee the best she has (like the Cereal). She still spends Apogee birthdays with Jet (“Family Photo”), which isn’t a company she feels comfortable in, but she does that for Apogee’s sake. She also is never intentionaly mean to her daughter. If she ever hurts her feelings, it’s almost always because the topic of the dissusion (or the joke) is Jet. Even then, if she sees that her daugther was hurt by what she said, she ethier apologizes or cuts off the discussion.
Delta is a good mother, but she isn’t a good role model. She isn’t perfect, but that’s one reason I like her as a character so much. I fell in love with this story and it’s universe because of how more “real” it is. Is Delta as good of a mother as Pear Butter or Windy Whistles from the show? To be brutally honest, I’d say yes.
We only take to concideration the behavious of those characters, but we never concider the fact of how much darker and “realistic” the Space Ponyos universe is. The “show universe” doesn’t seem to contain substance abuse, drugs, alcohol, sex/rape, murder and other dark things that this universe at least hints at. There are no “homeless” ponies in the show, because what it portrays the ideal version of the pony world, while Space Ponyos’s one shows much more real and dark version of how that world looks. This is why I can never judge Delta based on the outcome of her actions. This world isn’t perfect, so everyone has to do best with what they got. Delta does everything she can for Apogee, that wouldn’t make her throw away her last “pre-Apogee” personality trait (being a proud mare who wants to live off of her own achivements).
Your passion displays the love you have for these characters and their story!
I know I was joking.
I mean that the bad parts of their character is part of their personality.
but rainbow dash could be a beautiful mother, who always thinks of her child, and doesn’t worry about silly little things like stunt flying anymore!
