She seems a little younger in the picture, as if Zecora found her and raised her. Seems like AB is afraid or curious of something and Zecora is trying to reassure her.

I’m going to take a shot at this. I really wanted there to be a story behind this picture, so I made one up.
“Apple Bloom wanted to earn a cutie mark in potion-making. Naturally, she went to Zecora with the other Cutiemark Crusaders. As normal, they all failed trying to get their cutie-marks in potion making. However, when the others left, Apple Bloom actually stayed around. She had grown fond of Zecora, her mystique, and how kind the mare was. She didn’t care about the potion-making cutiemark anymore, but she still wanted to be friends with Zecora. Zecora eventually became like a second sister for Apple Bloom.”

Seriously one of the cutest relationships on the show. I see Zecora as the mother Apple Bloom never got, and I hope they elaborate that in Season Five.
