Everyone has an opinion. You saying its just friendship is as valid as people saying they are married. People need to get over the fact that many people will assume that that two people living together might do it because of marriage. Two platonic friends living together and dragging poor animals out of natural habitat for no reason seems less likely. But you have right to make them platonic in your fanfics.
