https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morris_dance
tl;dr it’s a very very old rural English form of folk dance, and perhaps not well known outside the UK. Americans are English-speakers but there has been enough separation for long enough that things like this, observed from a distance, leave us a bit mindboggled, sort of like the English habit of eating jellied eels.
Then there is also the fact that many Americans are of non-English ethnic heritage. My father was the son of Russian immigrants. My mother’s family were Irish Protestants. Morris dancing is as outlandish to us as Mongolian throat-singing. The closest thing we have to this is the Mummers’ Parade in Philadelphia every New Year’s Day–which, I am sure, must look equally outlandish to the out-of-towners.
When I say this I mean no offense, and I am making no value judgments.
As in Morris Marina…?
“MY NEED TO DANCE HAS OVERWRITTEN MY NEED TO EXTERMINATE!”
I think the only time it was considered very briefly ‘cool’ was when the Supreme Dalek decided to join in…
More like boreus dancing

Traditional English Dancing
It doesn’t exactly track as cool over there from what I understand.
That’s where Bob lives, yes.
