It is totally their muzzle movement. it actually looks like their are touching each other. so many animations don’t look real because you don’t believe that there is a connection. like if your game character has a shield and it is just hovering above his hand. we need animations where it looks like there are actual 2 surfaces that are realisticly touching each other, not phasing through each other.  
And the intimacy that I love most in this gif is AJ’s subtle stroke of her tounge over Rarity’s mouth. Gives you really the feeling that she is putting her tounge in there for some french kissing <3
