I feel like we (not specifying or calling out you and I, just the general usage of “we” as in everyone reading this - not accusing you or anyone else of anything) should try to avoid acting like people who like the OC that we do not like are awful people. That goes in both directions - it’s going a bit far to start developing opinions about the moral fiber and character of posters (obviously negative) who prefer one cartoon horse person over the other, all from a series that is basically fanfiction about a little girl’s cartoon show.

Doesn’t help that both sides gives off that vibe when we argue, or acts like the other side does (mostly when it comes to Jet, to the point of including someone calling everyone who defends Jet Incels because we like him more than Delta).
@Armagedonus
I probably could have worded that better, so that’s my bad. The short time I’ve been exposed to this particular group of OCs, it seemed like a feud between those who like Delta and those who like Jet, and didn’t like the other character.
I definitely get where you’re coming from, Lucario.
@Mister Cliff
This I also get, and sympathize with.
I’m in the “they’re both bad people, one just tried to be better” boat, which according to some makes me a Jet fan.
@Mister Cliff
Thank you.
Not 100% sure why the man wanted to favor one base other the other when one character behaves civilly, and the other doesn’t even want to talk to her daughter. I understand favoring one line of thinking or behaviour (or past), but I have a hard time sympathizing with a character who shits on her own daughter. I don’t care how tragic one’s backstory is if one is an asshole. You reach a point where you stop caring about that character, and you REALLY reach a point where you stop being sympathetic to that character. “I’m super sad you guys” doesn’t carry you very far when the only reason you’re acknowledging your kid is because Johnny Law threatens you with a court date.
Fuck anyone who doesn’t make an effort to connect with their kid - in fiction AND in reality.

There are Jet fans?
I thought there are “delta fans” and “delta haters”
I would like that as well. Though I don’t know how they could do it without pissing off one side or the other (Jet fans or Delta fans).
Nobody who cares about this comic wants kindergarden-grade moral relativism like that.
I, for example, want hard-fought good ending for everyone in the family.
It’s fine. It’s more civilized than most of these conversations at least.
daddy never came to my ball games…
@Meanlucario
Shino could easly made picture based on P-Berry fanfics. In these there are many scenes where Jet is sad.
I don’t see the problem with that.
you’re just asking for shino to draw a heartbroken colt jet with puppy dog eyes.
I partially agree.
On one hand female characters ARE given some connivance in such cases.
On the other hand we have Starlight Glimmer, who is both hated and loved because of what she did and what she represents.
That only apply to female characters. Male characters considered irredeemable if they are even slightly a jerk, like Prince Blueblood.
But do not forget! She had a bad life!
And according to some people, who are commenting under Shino’s comics, it is okay to behave like a jerk if you have sobby backstory!
Now author needs to give Jet a sobby childhood and nobody will complain about his behavior!
It’s a bit hard to get that across when all we’ve seen from their behaviour so far is Jet providing for his daughter and calmly telling Delta “spend time with your child, and be nice to her too”, and Delta arguing angrily with a lawyer about how she doesn’t give a shit about Apogee.
We at least seen Jet tell Delta about lying about Apogee being an accident in the original (how else would she learn?), so there’s at least some humanity in him, if they keep it in.
And I also do long-winded speeches, only without alcohol.
@Armagedonus
I hope it’s more than that, though I do feel like that’s the main reason.
Won’t such rework make certain parts of the story make no sense, like the whole “Jet wants to be the best father to his daughter”?
Seriously, it would be jarring to witness this, while “old art” is still in this site.
I kinda hope they’re both portrayed as people. Flawed people who aren’t perfect and make mistakes. Not that I would categorize “lied about a condom breaking so that I could trap this mare into a marriage via a pregnancy” as a mistake and hand-wave away the magnitude of the effect on both of their lives, of course.
But I hope that we don’t have one perfect devil and one perfect angel, despite their actions. One designated villain and one angel whose righteousness has to be written out in plain text or otherwise we wouldn’t know about it.
I hope Jet has more emphasis put on whatever personality traits that lead to him thinking that what he did was, in any way, justifiable. I hope we see more of Delta’s personal internal struggle in regards to Apogee. I want to see Jet be a good parent, but a bad person. I want to see Delta actually feel human (or pony) remorse over her treatment of her child. I want to see happy moments between Delta and Apogee, and I want to see the sort of person Jet might be leak through in his treatment with his daughter.
No gods - only men. Flawed ponies who are not perfect - no good guys and bad guys.
Making Jet less likable just ‘cause would be shitty. Pretending that Delta’s actions are “okay” by just giving her a tragic backstory would be shitty. I just hope that the changes to Jet are more complex than “and also he kicks puppies and thinks that we should burn the poor”, and the changes to Delta are more than “but she’s really really sad you guyyyyys”.
The setup here is already pretty decent. Like you said - Jet and Delta had their starting points years ago, and they went in different directions. Jet tried to become a better person and provides for his daughter, even though the ‘trick’ to keep him and Delta together didn’t work. Meanwhile, Delta has become bitter and wants nothing to do with her daughter. I just hope that the mere concept of complex character development, where neither one is a bad guy who twirls his mustache and is evil for the sake of being evil, is present in the rewrite. I want to feel sympathy for both of them, but also slap myself in the forehead and go “you’re a fucking idiot” when I read about how their flaws affect their lives and the decisions they make.
I don’t want Jet to become Hitler’s favourite grandson in the rewrite any more than I want to see Delta be some daughter-hating bitch in the current comic. Neither one are perfect, and each has different flaws. I just hope that we don’t hit cartoonish levels of villiany from Jet, nor do we see every flaw in Delta wiped away with a “but she suffered and is really sad” hand-wave.
Sorry if this is long-winded. I’ve been drinking and I always feel emotional when I drink, and parents being seen as people instead of “this one is a good person and this one should burn in hell” has always been important to me in my personal life. Parents getting divorce sucks, and the first step to dealing with it as a child is to realize that your parents are people, not the paradigm of good and the ultimate pinnacle of evil.
I can’t argue there. I’ve always said that they’re both horrible people, just that Jet became a better person while Delta became a worst person. I just hope that the writer doesn’t make Jet too unlikeable or that a tragic backstory is all Delta needs to be likeable, and that they don’t rely on fanfics to tell a complete story.
I have mixed feelings about that. I hope that they accomplish this by improving Delta’s behaviour towards Apogee on top of making Jet less sympathetic. Because making something worse doesn’t make me like an existing bad thing that’s now comparatively better.
And before an argument breaks out, I think what Jet did (forcing a baby onto someone, lying to them about a broken condom, just so that you can stay married etc) is incredibly scummy. There’s no debate about that coming from me.
I just can’t look at Delta being told to interact with her daughter by a lawyer and having to be instructed to be nice to her and feel any great amount of sympathy. Even if the roles were reversed, and Jet was the one living on a junk yard and Delta was all “spend time with our daughter and be nice to her”, I still wouldn’t be impressed if he said “I don’t want to spend time with my kid”.
My parents got divorced when I was young, and maybe that’s why I feel so strongly about parents never ever making their child wonder if they’re unwanted. A child should never ask “why do you hate me”. A child should never even suspect that their existence was a factor in their parents splitting up. A child should never wonder, “If I was never born, would mom and dad still love each other”. Because that’s wrong. So, like I said: I hope in the process of reworking the series, the artist improves Delta’s behaviour with her daughter IN ADDITION to making Jet’s overall behaviour and character worse.
Because if you piss in my glass of orange juice, you can’t just magically make it more appetizing to me by then shitting onto my cereal. And if Jet is turned into a huge scumbag but Delta is still all “Oh fuck off kid, I barely agreed to spend time with you” then that’s not improving anything and that doesn’t make me like Delta more.
Edited
Honestly, it seems like they’re trying to make Jet look worst and Delta better, since the writer said that the goal was to make people hate Jet (if memory serves me right) when were started going at each other’s throats over if Jet of Delta is worst in an older image.
Are they? I don’t really keep up with this series (I only started reading the comics a few days ago, but I’ve thought Apogee was a cutie patootie for a long time) and I don’t know why they’re doing that. Were the character portrayals uneven or inadequate for the artist’s vision of how the series should be?
Or am I overthinking this, and he’s just redrawing it because he’s better at drawing now.
