Really?
-Basic plot is to go “your blood doesn’t define you, it’s who love and care for you that makes family”.
-Spike gets involved with [dragon(s)]
-feels “he belongs”
-he’s abused by [dragon(s)]
-takes a drastic moment for Spike to go “oh, I DON’T belong with [dragon(s)]”
-repel’s [dragon(s)] and returns to ponies
The thing that makes FKB so BAD is that by this point, Spike is FRIENDS with THE CURRENT DRAGON LORD and could easily identify this dragon with Ember’s assistance. Spike also is capable of coming to conclusions on his own, is a great judge of character, and has proven this by befriending Ember and Thorax (the latter of which is the only reason Chrysalis’ second attack could be stopped).
It literally required Spike to regress all the way back to mid season 2.
@ABronyAccount
For that matter, think of Nani’s relationship with Lilo in Lilo and Stitch. They’re sisters, and think of each other as such, but Nani is also the only real parental figure in Lilo’s life.
Everyone had reason to believe Sludge was a pest because every single dragon is a greedy, self absorbed dirtbag. The whole of the mane 6 saw that his story was incredibly full of holes yet just plugged their ears and walked away and outright ignored that dragons not directly under Ember’s leadership would just as soon throw you into a pool of lava as they would look at you.
Not to mention, Spike never saw twilight as a mother figure, so this scene is double stupid.
But he had every reason to doubt her. He didn’t know that Sludge was a pest. For him, he was a great dad teaching him all the good things. From Spike’s point of view, here comes Twilight, trying to ruin his fun just because she’s jealous he found a real parent and doesn’t need her anymore.
I have noticed people don’t like when characters snap at each other, but there’s nothing wrong with it.
Spike felt that he was not treated equally or seen as a little brother in the way he should have. Spike was clearly shown spending time with Twilight’s parents while Twi and Shining were off doing things (tests, clay, etc), and wanted to be included on their competitions, but as the series has shown, Twi doesn’t treat him like a little brother proper and is often impersonal to the point she sometimes treats him like a pet. She had to remember that Spike lived in Golden Oaks library with her and that it was his home too.
FKB has Spike suddenly and angrily snapping at twilight’s suspicions that Sludge is… well, full of sludge when he has no reason to doubt her at this point.
Twilight’s seven has him acknowledge that he hasn’t been seen as a little brother proper and it’s just something he’s politely kept in mind and not his place to force and enforce them to see him as, hence why he decided to give up the crown after he proved that he outwitted everyone.
Thankfully, they respected his view and firmly agreed that he is indeed the little brother.
Because it’s better to assume that Spike felt not a part of this family until now? I’ll pass.
But really, both episodes are canon.
Or…let’s not.
@Daneasaur
Ditto.
More than willing to agree.
Yeah, the whole episode of FKB was just terribly written. It really comes off like a fan fic from someone who hardly knows anything about the show.
@LightningLazer
i think writers made this for those Twispike ship lovers, like me . writers can go and eat a bag of d*cks :D
@Nightmare Fuel
Agreed.
Just like Moliminous said, the harshness kinda loses its tone especially if Spike sees Twilight like a sister more than a mother, and after seeing Twilight’s Seven where the episodes pretty much sums up their relationship, it just proves how bland and hollow this scene and episode is.
It’s a mother/sister relationship Twily has with spike
What’s Applejack’s relation to Apple Bloom? Obviously sibling, but arguably she’s also had to fill in a kind of maternal role. Family dynamics are not always clear-cut.
“It’s worse than we thought, Spike. I’m afraid I have cardiovitreus crepatura.”
[Medical X-Rays]
I think the show staff just didn’t want it to be too graphic.
like that heart breaking is so corny its kind of dumb
