Well, we got the announcement that FiM was ending 9 months before the series finale. We also got some pretty heavy handed hints about the evolution of MLP past FiM for the last year, and hints MLP FiM was ending for the last 2 years.  
So, with that in mind, in March, the people currently doing EQG at Hasbro, DHX, and now Boulder said they have no such knowledge that EQG is ending.  
So, it we could have EQG for the next 2-3 years, honestly.  
Besides, its mid-May with not a whisper about G5. Pretty sure at this point just the show ended, and EQG isnt even on the chopping block.

It’s canon thanks to having the My Little Pony and Hasbro logos on it.
 
I really hope they keep the EqG part of the franchise separate from the FIM series all the way through the end of Season 9.

Eg is Canon thanks to sirens and thanks to rockhoof conforming how they were banished in another dimension in his stories

Isnt it weird the “soft canon” is what is carrying on?  
Like, FiM is on its last season, but we know EQG is carrying on for at least another year. Likely comics, too.  
So Sunset says-“I lived, %$@$.”

Honestly, at this point I think almost ALL external media is soft cannon, meaning it’s not cannon until otherwise. The only 2 things I think are cannon is the Party Palooza book and the Movie.
